UNB, Dhaka :BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday urged the government not to take the issue of militancy ‘so lightly’ as it’s a national problem. He made the call while addressing a function at the auditorium of Photo Journalists Association in the city.Referring to the recent secrete attacks at different places, Fakhrul said, “These attacks have made the entire nation panicked. We’re again urging the government not to take the issue so lightly. It’s a national problem. Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan have badly affected by this problem and many people of these countries are now roaming here and there as refugees.”He further said, “We all should get united and forge a national unity to contain such terrorism in our country.”Fakhrul also called upon the government to take effective steps to eliminate militancy from the country. The BNP leader came down hard on the government for what he said its ‘contradictory stance on militancy and extremism. “The government is denying the existence of Islamic Sate (IS) in the country. But, interestingly four people who had been arrested from Kishoreganj are being tried as IS members. It’s a contradictory position,” he said.Accusing the law enforcers of making stories over taking action against militants, he said they arrest some people as militants and present them before journalists with a new story each time.Describing the current regime as fascist and undemocratic one, Fakhrul said it is now trying to annihilate democratic forces to perpetuate its power. He urged the democratic forces to get united to restore democracy and people’s basic rights in the country.
