UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday urged all to remain alert so that the evil forces like BNP and Jamaat who only believe in destructive politics cannot raise their heads and destabilise the country again.
“I would like to request you all to stay watchful always so that these evil forces (BNP and Jamaat) cannot raise their heads again,” she said.
The Prime Minister was addressing a rally at Hazaribag after inaugurating the newly-built Hazaribag Fire Service and Civil Defence Station and lying the foundation of Shahid Shamsunnesa Arju Moni Mother and Children Welfare Centre. Appreciating people for not supporting BNP-Jamaat alliance’s
destructive politics, she said all need to keep in mind that calamities come and then fade away. “That doesn’t mean the calamities won’t return.”
The people of the country have proved by rejecting the BNP-Jamaat alliance during its recent 92-day agitation programme that the country’s democracy now stands on a solid ground.
“It was a movement of terrorists. That’s why some 150 people were killed, while hundreds of people are now passing miserable days with burn injuries as the BNP-Jamaat terrorists unleashed firebomb attacks on innocent people during the period,” she said adding, “People don’t want destruction…they want peace, they want the continuation of democracy.”
Hasina mentioned that BNP never believes in democracy as its birth did not follow the democratic system. “They’ve got established through killings, coups and conspiracies… so their character will never change. Stay united so that this evil force cannot destabilise the country again.”
Turing to the recently held city polls in Dhaka and Chittagong, she said BNP had wanted to play another game with the elections. “They first had said they won’t participate in any election under the Awami League government… later they said they’ll join the city polls. They then started seeking votes in favour of ‘Bus’ symbol which they burned during the 92-day agitation.”
Hasina said, when BNP realised that people were not casting their votes in favour of the BNP-backed candidates they withdrew their candidature halfway through balloting.
Briefly listing the development activities in various sectors, the Prime Minister urged people to consider who are working for their welfare while taking any decision in the future.
Held with local MP Fazle Noor Taposh in the chair, the rally was addressed, among others, by State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan, State Minister for Health Jahid Malek, Home Secretary Dr Mozammel Huq Khan, Health Secretary Monzurul Islam and director general of Fire Service and Civil Defence Brig Gen Ali Ahmed Khan.
