Don’t leave polling stations until results announced: BNP

BNP on Tuesday asked its leaders and activists to stay there in polling stations until the results of Wednesday’s municipal elections are announced.
“The government has made a blueprint to manipulate the election results in its favour. Arrest drives are still on in election areas to intimidate voters so that they don’t go to polling stations,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he further said, “All voters must cast their ballots today (Wednesday) braving all odds and stay there in voting centres until the
results are announced.” The BNP leader also urged all to get united to ensure people’s right to vote foiling any evil design.
Rizvi alleged that the ruling party men with the help of administration are attacking and harassing BNP candidates and their supporters in a many municipalities to intimidate voters.
At another programme, BNP chairperson’s adviser Khandaker Mahbub Hossain warned of dire consequences if the ruling party tries to rig votes.
He came up with the note of warning at a protest rally of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum on the Supreme Court premises. The programme was held protesting the attacks on lawyers on the Supreme Court premises on December 29, 201. He demanded the government ensure punishment of those involved in the attack.
