BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member Jaynul Abdin Faruk on Wednesday urged the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina not to influence the search committee formed for reconstitution of the next EC.
“O Prime Minister! You are in power, please, do not influence the search body to reconstitute election commission,” Faruk said while addressing a human chain in front of the National Press Club. Ganotantra Rakkha Mancho organised the programme.
“Please help the search body form a neutral and acceptable election
commission, but do not intervene or influence,” the former chief whip said.
The BNP leader also requested the President to form a fair EC through the search body, as BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia asked him during the dialogue held in the Bangabhaban in December.
Faruk said, if the President forms neutral and non-partisan EC, it will be free from controversy in politics.
He said Election Commissioners with political colour would not be acceptable to the people of Bangladesh.
The BNP leader also asked the chief of the search body to judge neutrally in this regard as he is himself a judge.
Faruk also claimed that except the ruling Awami League, every political party wants honest and brave EC.
Monwar Hossain Beg Kashem, the Coordinator of the organisation presided over the programme. BNP central leader Habibur Rahman Habib, ABM Mosharraf Hossain, Kader Gani Chowdhury, Kalyan Party leader Saidur Rahman Tamanna and Jatiyatabadi Desh Banchao Manush Banchao Andolon President KM Rakibul Islam Ripon, among others, were present.
