The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has directed its inquiry officials not to contact with the alleged accused over phone during investigation, sources said.If any inquiry officer asks for extortion over phone in the name of the anti-graft body, the victim has been requested to contact with the ACC.
ACC has come up with the move following some specific complaints that members of a syndicate have collected extortion from businessmen and bureaucrats introducing themselves as ACC assistant and deputy directors.
They contacting with the victims in cell phone asked for cash intimidating them of indicting in corruption cases.
A number of businessmen met the demand of the syndicate in fear. They complained with the ACC in this regard, which the commission took into cognizance. As per the allegation, ACC with the help of the law enforcement agencies arrested three members, including a woman, of the syndicate.
A high-ranking officer of the commission told The New Nation that no officer could hold investigation or file case or submit charge sheet against any person or organisation without the prior permission of the high-ups of the commission.
So, the victims should inform the ACC if asked for extortion in the name of the commission.
