Staff Reporter :
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood on Thursday called upon the countrymen not to cast vote for the black money owners and corrupts in the upcoming general election slated for December 30.
“I strongly believe that the countrymen would not cast vote for black money owners and corrupts who amassed money through illegal means,” Mahmood told a questioner while addressing a programme at the commission’s Segunbagicha headquarters this evening.
Claiming that conducting election is the Election Commission’s task, the ACC boss said the anti-corruption watchdog will keep watch on the use of black money in the name of electioneering expenditures.
The ACC expects that all the candidates would ensure transparency in expending their electioneering cost and they would submit their statement to the Election Commission by stipulated time, he said.
He also asked the contenders not to provide any untrue information over the election expenditure in their statement.
“If there is anything about illegal wealth in the statement, we will follow the legal course,” Mahmood warned. The ACC chairman said the commission will go for a tough action against those who have amassed black money illegally by violating the country’s constitution.
Endorsing that the ACC has failed to become hundred percent successful in implementing its mission and vision, Mahmood said, “We all will have to be more strong in curbing corruption.”
Claiming that some ACC staff and officials have plunged in committing corruption, Mahmood said, “Measures against them will be taken. It cannot be compromised.”
The Commission has chalked out plans in curbing corruption and the government has already been informed in this regard, he added.
