The HC bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed on May 31 in 2018 by Hasan Uddin Sarker, BNP’s mayor candidate in the election, seeking HC order against indiscriminate arrest of his supporters.
Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Chief of Rapid Action Battalion, Additional Inspector General of Police for the Criminal Investigation Department and Special Branch, Superintendent of Police of Gazipur, Officers-in-Charge of Tongi and Gazipur’s all Police Stations have to comply with the rule within two weeks, Hasan Uddin’s lawyer Barrister H M Shanjid Siddique told The New Nation.
He also said, the High Court asked Attorney General Mahbubey Alam to inform the order to the respondents immediately as the GCC election will be held tomorrow.

Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan took part in the hearing on behalf of the writ petitioner. Barrister H M Sanjid Siddique was also present in the court for the petitioner. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the State.
