President to PGR: Don’t alienate VIPs from people

President Abdul Hamid on Sunday asked the members of President Guard Regiment (PGR) to keep in mind so that the State’s important persons of the state do not get alienated from common people, including leaders and activists, while discharging their duties.
“Most of the Persons for whom you ensure security are political personalities and closely connected with politics. So, they carry out political activities apart from discharging state and government duties and maintain good terms with leaders and activists,” he said.
The President said this while addressing the Darbar of PGR at Shahid Captain Hafiz Hall at the PGR Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment on the occasion of its 40th founding anniversary.
Addressing the Darbar, Abdul Hamid said, “I believe you’ll play your due role with deep sincerity as you’re getting the rare opportunity to uphold dignity of the Bangladesh Army as well as the country by taking part in state programmes.”
He said the organisational structure of the President Guard Regiment has been widened with the expansion of their work areas.
The President further said a plan will be worked out in the future to strengthen the force further based on the extensiveness of duties. “Necessary steps will be taken for its welfare and development considering the duties and dignity of the regiment.”
Abdul Hamid also asked the PGR members to discharge their duties bestowed upon them being fully loyal to their chain-in-command. Pointing at the PGR members, the President said, “Keep in mind your any sacrifice in discharging your duties and responsibilities, bestowed by the nation and country, will be remembered in the nation’s history.” Later, President Hamid signed the visitor’s book and joined a photo session with PGR officials. Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, acting commander of PGR Colonel Md Jahangir Harun, high military and civil officials were present on the occasion.
