Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo is considering Tigers as ‘underdog’ in his home town South Africa (SA) as the visitors are touring to play three ODIs and two-match Test series.
However, Domingo is hopeful with the ODI side as they are at the top of the Super League currently.
“I don’t think we’re the favorites in South Africa. We have come here as an underdog who has never won a match before. However, we are optimistic about our ODI team. We have been playing well in ODIs for a long time,”
“Everyone on the team knows about their role. We are definitely looking forward to a competitive series but South Africa are favorites. They are playing on their home ground, a very good team. It is very difficult to beat them on their soil,” Domingo said amid the practice session on Wednesday.
Bangladesh have never clinched victory in Africa as Domingo believes Bangladesh can beat any team on their favorable day. He has no doubt about Tigers’ ability. So his team will try to change their history on Proteas soil with their best.
“We are underdogs, but we will definitely play competitive games. We are confident in our abilities. We can beat any team in our day. We will try to do something that no other Bangladesh side have been able to do here” he added.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board first rested experienced campaigner Shakib al Hasan after he stated that he was not emotionally or physically suited to play. However, the all-rounder changed his mind afterward and has now rejoined his teammates.
“[Shakib] balances our team. It is always difficult when he is not in the team – you are not sure if you need an extra bowler or extra batsman. It is great to have a player of his calibre around. He is experienced. He has been here before. He is a world-class player. We are very happy that he is on the tour. His energy, attitude and work ethic has been fantastic” Domingo said.
