Domestic tourism makes record

The tourists are travelling through the country’s tourist spots making a record in domestic tourism sector in the country.
Due to deadly covid-19 pandemic, the people of the country who give priority to go abroad for travelling were not able to go to other countries last year. As a result they are fulfilling their desire or hobby by travelling through domestic tourist spots.
So, Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) is hoping that more than two crore tourists will visit the domestic tourist spots, which will make a record in the country’s tourism sector.
According to BTB, about 1.5 crore tourists have visited country’s tourist spots before pandemic. BTB is also trying to response to show the additional tourists facilitating infrastructure development. Local tour operators are also taking various initiatives for reaping benefits from new trends.
Countries like Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan, and India which earn coin from Bangladeshi tourists and others have restricted entry in to their country due to coronavirus pandemic. Bangladesh has a host of natural treasures such as beaches, lakes, rivers, hills, forests, wildlife, tribal life, archaeological remains, historical monuments, religious and cultural heritages, handicrafts that offer great value for tourist attractions.
Tourist site Sundarbans, hill forests (Sylhet, Chattagram, CHTs and Cox’s Bazar), Paksey, wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, game reserves, safari parks, eco-parks, water bodies (haors, baors, lakes and rivers), islands (e.g. Saint Martin’s, Kutubdia, Sonadia, Nijum Deep etc.) have been flooded by tourist as authority relaxed in rules for travelling.
The local tourist companies have made changes of their policies and service system to attract the domestic’s tourists. Those who have operated foreign tour only they now revised their policy to give service to local visitors.
BTB Chief Executive Officer Jabed Ahmed said, government has taken lots of initiatives including development communication system as roads and other infrastructure are for new tourists for attracting the tourists.
He said, BTB has taken initiatives for making new policies to strengthen and make attraction of the tourists to visit the spots.
The CEO said, tourism service providers who have directly affected during the pandemic have responsibility to boost the domestic tourism.
“We are planning to initiate and implement various strategies to promote domestic tourism in Bangladesh with other stakeholders which may help ensure the recovery of COVID pandemic loss “Jabed Ahmed added.
