The Department of Environment (DoE) on Tuesday fined four factories in Narayanganj and Gazipur Tk 48 lakh for polluting environment.
DoE Director (Monitoring and Enforcement) Md Alamgir slapped the fine on two dyeing factories and two washing factories following hearings held at the DoE headquarters in the capital.
Kumudia Washing Ltd at Khanpur and Rocky Textile Mills Ltd at Haziganj in Narayanganj were fined Tk 32 lakh and Tk 8 lakh respectively on charge of dumping chemical waste into the Shitalakkhya River without using ETPs and running factories without environmental clearance.
Besides, Moonlight Washing Ltd and National Composite Knit & Washing Ltd at BSCIC Industrial area of Tongi in Gazipur were fined Tk 5 lakh and 3 lakh respectively, said a DoE release.
