The Department of Environment (DoE) on Thursday fined three factories and a brick kiln in Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayanganj Tk 40 lakh for polluting the environment.
DoE Director (Monitoring and Enforcement) Md Alamgir slapped the fine on the establishments-a dyeing factory, a washing factory, a steel factory and a brick kiln-following hearings held at the DoE headquarters in the capital, said a press release.
East West Suiting Mills Ltd at Ashulia on the outskirts of the capital was fined Tk 13 lakh for not
renewing the environmental clearance certificate and directly releasing untreated liquid waste into water body while Summer Dress Ltd at Jangaliapara in Mirzapur of Gazipur was fined Tk 1 lakh for running the washing factory without setting up effluent treatment plant (ETP).
Metro Steel and Re-rolling Mills Ltd at Shimrail in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj was fined Tk 22 lakh on charge of running the factory without environmental clearance and polluting the air by not setting up Air Treatment Plant (ATP) for a long.
