Surprise ACC visit to 11 govt hospitals: Dodger docs 42pc

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday found 40 percent physicians absent in their work places.
The commission observed it after a sudden drives launched in 11 government hospitals of eight districts including Dhaka on Monday.
The anti-graft body launched the drives simultaneously from Monday morning and continued till 2pm.
The ACC launched the drives against the hospitals after getting several allegations.
The ACC Director General (Admin) Munir Chowdhury disclosed this in a press briefing at the commission’s Segunbagicha headquarters on Monday.
In the briefing, he said, “During the drives, we found 92 doctors only out of 230 on duty. That means, 40 percent were absent.”
The situation was worse in the hospitals outside Dhaka, he said adding that 81 out of 130 doctors were absent there which is 62 percent of total number.
The ACC DG also warned of stern action against any irregularity.
The ACC conducted drives at Fulbaria Karmochari Kalyan Hospital, Mughda General Hospital and Ma O Shishu Sadan in Dhaka district, Pirgacha Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur, Godaghari Upazila Health Complex in Rajshahi, Dinajpur Sadar Hospital, Delduar Upazila Health Complex in Tangail, Muktagacha Upazila Health Complex in Mymansingh, Kumarkhali Upazila Health Complex in Kushtia, Pabna Sadar Hospital and Atghoria Upazila Health Complex.
During the drives, the patients of the hospitals alleged that the doctors are not careful of the patients in the hospitals. They stay in the hospitals for a few moment and practised outside the hospital with handsome amount of fees.
In absence of the doctors, the staff of the hospitals remain absent every day, the patients and the locals alleged.
