Physicians at a seminar said the child cancer could be treated in a better way. They also said the doctors should be more enthusiastic to know about the advancement in treatment of child cancer in Asia and the world over.
The seminar titled “Childhood Cancer: Concept and Cure” organized on Wednesday by the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), at the Shaheed Dr Milon Hall of the medical university here.
Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, spoke at the function as the chief guest, while Prof Md Ruhul Amin Mia, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof Dr Shahidullah Sikder, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development), Prof Md Sharfuddin Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof Ali Asgor Moral, Treasurer, and Prof M Iqbal Arslan, Dean, Faculty of Basic Science of BSMMU, spoke as the special guests.
Dr. Tasnim Ara presented the keynote paper where she highlighted different aspects of child cancer scenario as well as the molecular level diagnosis and treatment. She said 32.1 per 1,00,000 children aged up to 14 years were suffering from cancer worldwide.
Environmental factors, dieting pattern and many other factors like DNA-genetic changes may cause cancer, she said adding molecular diagnosis was essential as the molecular diagnosis and treatment together could change the cancer scenario.
