Physician killing: Doctors call off strike in Khulna

Doctors of government and private hospitals, who went on work abstention on Wednesday afternoon demanding immediate arrest of the killers of a doctor, called off their strike on Thursday following the arrest of the prime accused.
The physicians made the decision to call off the strike in the afternoon from a press briefing, said Khandaker Lutful Kabir, commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police. Meanwhile, police so far arrested five people including prime accused Jamir from different areas from Wednesday night to Thursday.
The other arrestees are- Abul Ali, Golam Mostafa, Khadiza and Abdur Rahim.
Police arrested them from Tongi in Gazipur and Rupsha of Khulna.
Among the five arrestees, three were made accused in the case filed in connection with the incident.
Earlier on Monday, a patient’s relatives injured Dr Md Abdur Rakib Khan during a scuffle at a private hospital. The doctor later died at Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital in Khulna on Tuesday night.
Dr Khan was the director of Raisa Clinic and Diagnostic Centre in Khulna and principal of Bagerhat Medical Assistants’ Training School.
The death of a mother after giving birth to a baby at the clinic led to the scuffle, said locals.
Saiful Islam, younger brother of the deceased doctor, claimed that some relatives of the patient attacked his brother on Monday, leaving him critically injured.
He was immediately taken to Gazi Medical College Hospital and later was shifted to Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital. But he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
His younger brother Saiful Islam filed the case with Khulna Sadar Police Station on Wednesday mentioning names of four people and 8-10 unidentified people.
