One on duty doctor was assaulted by the attendants of patient following death of that patient at Hizla upazila health complex of Barisal on Monday morning.
Police deployed at the hospital and arrested two attackers after the incident.
Shawkat Anwar, Hizla police station officer in charge, said Isharul Shikdar Druba, 13, son of Dulal Shikdar from Guabaria, was brought to the hospital with high fever at 9:15 AM.
The patient was admitted immediately and the attendants were asked to collect medicines from the hospital storage and outside.
However the condition of the patient deteriorated within few minutes of admission with vomiting and expired at before starting any treatment, claimed Dr. Shuvangkar Baroi, upazila health and family planning officer.
Following the death of the patient Yunus Shikdar, elder brother and Alamin Mridha, cousin of the deceased patient attacked Dr. Shuvangkar alleging negligence and delay in starting treatment, the police officer told.
After that police detained the accused two attackers and Dr. Shuvangkar lodged a case against them with the Hizla police station.
Dr. Shuvankar denying any delay in treatment said the patient died before starting the treatment and the extreme temperature of his body collapsed his nerves and heart.
On other hand the family members of the patient alleged that after bringing to the hospital the doctor asked to collect medicines from outside without checking the critical condition of the patient and giving proper importance and emergency treatment.
This negligence caused the death of the patient and made the attendants agitated after declaring the death at 10:20 AM, they relatives of the patient told.
The dead body of the child handed over to family members after lodging a general diary, the police sources told.
