The Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection (DNCRP) said that in addition to fines, cases will also be filed against dishonest egg traders.
AHM Safikuzzaman, director general of DNCRP, gave such a strong message in a meeting with egg and chicken traders on Sunday afternoon.
He said that the price of poultry feed has not increased despite the rise in oil prices. However, the cost of bringing eggs to Dhaka has increased by three to four paisa. However, the business association has increased the price by Tk 2.70.
The director general also said that eggs are being sold at double or two and a half times higher prices in the name of organic.
Many traders are also hiding the purchase receipt. The price of eggs has been increased by secretly forming a syndicate over the phone.
Meanwhile, FBCCI vice-president Mustafa Azad Chowdhury said that whether big companies have any hands in the price manipulation of any product should be investigated.
The eggs and chicken market became unstable from the second week of the current month. Broiler chickens are sold for Tk 200 to Tk 210 and per hali (4 pieces) eggs is Tk 60.
Now the price of eggs starts to fall after the Commerce Minister’s warning and consumer rights campaign.
