Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam on Friday said that he is trying to make city’s sports and physical exercise spaces widen to build a healthy city.
“We have started renovation work of 24 parks and playgrounds under DNCC’s jurisdiction to make a healthy city,” Atiqul Islam said it while inaugurating football tournament in Uttara Sector-3. Shaheed Shimul Memorial Football
Tournament was started in Friends’ Club play-ground there. The Mayor said that, he will hand over all of those parks and playgrounds to the local people soon after completing renovation work.
DNCC Mayor inaugurated it releasing pigeons and kicking football.
The Mayor said that playing football and other games are helpful to keep youths from drug abusing.
He appreciated the initiatives of the tournament and asked all to follow such activities.
The Mayor also said that, he feels better if people call him as their serviceman not father of the city.
“I will be happy if you call me your serviceman instead of father of the city,” he said.
Harunur Rashid, Advisor of Friends’ Club, Monwar Hossain President of Uttara Paschim thana Awami League and General Secretary Sayeed Siddique, among others, were present.
