Election Commission on Tuesday announced the schedules of by-polls of the Dhaka North City Corporation mayor post and 36 new wards councillor posts. The by-polls will be held on February 26.
Candidates may submit nominations by January 18.
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced the schedule at Nirbachon Bhaban in the capital city.
The nomination papers will be scrutinised on January 21 and 22 while the last day of withdrawal of candidature is January 29. Elections will also pick-up 18 new councillors for 18 new wards of both Dhaka North and Dhaka South and six women councillors of Dhaka North.
The CEC said that there are 29,48,510 voters in DNCC. On the other hand, the numbers of voters of 18 new wards of DSCC is 4,77,410. The mayor post of DNCC fell vacant with the death of Annisul Huq on November 30.
On December 1, the Local Government Division officially declared the post vacant.
