The by-election to the Dhaka North City Corporation will be held on February 26.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda made the announcement at a press conference at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital on Thursday.
The EC took the decision on Thursday at a meeting held at its office, said EC Acting Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
The mayor post of DNCC fell vacant with the death of Annisul Huq on November 30. On December 1, the Local Government Division officially declared the post vacant.
Elections will also pick-up 18 new councilors for 18 wards of both Dhaka North and Dhaka South and six women councilors in respected seats of Dhaka North, the officials said.
EC Acting Secretary also said that the updated voters’ list of the country will be published by 31 January.
