Every month in capital Dhaka, around 1,500 drugs related cases are being filed. But the roots of most of the drug cases could not be found after the investigation, DMP sources said.
In most of the cases, the investigators complete their investigations by blaming the suppliers or retailers but not the dealers and godfathers. That is why, the supply of drugs is not going to be reduced in any way.
To reduce the supply of drugs in the capital and elsewhere across the country,
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Shafiqul islam has recently instructed the concerned investigation officers not only to arrest the suppliers or retailers but also to find out the roots of the drugs as their dealers are very cunning.
For this, he instructed them various ways for the quality investigation so as to find out the drug dealers. He also mentioned under which laws the alleged persons should be charged.
The DMP commissioner said, “If one supplier of a dealer is arrested, he immediately appoints another supplier. So, until we could reach the roots of this menace it could not be stopped”.
However, he said, “We want to control the supply and use of drugs at any cost”.
“If we could detect the drug business chain from the field stage to the route, their chain can be broken,” he added.
Talking about the matter, some DMP officials said that most of the time drug carriers or suppliers were caught in raids. After a drug case is filed, the tendency to go to the source of the original drug investor or root of drug is much less.
The process of identifying all parties involved with drugs has begun after the DMP commissioner’s instructions, they said.
As directed by the DMP Commissioner, national identity card, mobile number, name and address and identify themselves using criminal data management system, fingerprint of the accused in the case of drug have to be collected.
At the same time, all the information has to be added to the criminal data management system (CDMS) and a complete profile with pictures has to be created.
An intelligent official said that the commissioner’s new guidelines would play a key role in drug eradication.
When contacted Professor Zia Rahman, Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Dhaka University, Board of Directors of the International Society of Criminology told The New Nation that the government agencies are working in this direction but the drug trade and consumption is not declining.
“Far-reaching planning and implementation must be done to control drug business in the country,” he added.
