Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a set of directives for peaceful and smooth celebration of the Awami League’s rally to be held today at the Suhrawardy Udyan as the party achieved a landslide victory in the 11th parliamentary polls.
The DMP has come up with guideline for better traffic management ahead of the mammoth gathering where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to attend as the chief guest.
It has requested the participants not to carry handbags, trolley bags, explosives and sharp elements and help the law enforcers who will work to maintain law and order for holding it in a peaceful manner.
Heavy or light vehicles have been off-limited to the venue and its adjoining areas.
The DMP guidelines are:
Coming from Gabtoli via Mirpur Road-Science Lab-New Market, people would have to get off at Nilkhet and move towards the venue by foot. Their vehicles will be parked at Mall Chattar of Dhaka University (DU) and by the both sides of Nilkhet to Palashi road.
People coming from Uttara via Airport Road- Mohakhali- Moghbazar-Kakrail Church-Rajmoni crossing-Nightingale-Paltan-Zero Point or via Khilkhet flyover-Badda-Gulshan-Rampura Road- Mouchak flyover-Malibagh-Shantinagar-Rajmoni Crossing-Nightingale to Paltan/Zero Point will have to get down at Paltan/Zero Point and move towards venue on foot via Doyel Chattar. They will park their vehicles at Motijheel area.
Whereas people coming from eastern regions via Jatrabari and southern regions via Postogola and under the Mayor Hanif Flyover would have to get off at Gulistan and go to the venue on foot via Zero Point-Doyel Chattar. Their vehicles will be parked at Motijheel/Gulistan.
Those who will come through the Mayor Hanif flyover would have to get down at Chankharpul and move towards the venue on foot via Doyel Chattar. Their vehicles will be parked on the Gymnasium field of DU.
People coming from via Babubajar Bridge will dismount at Golap Shah Shrine and move towards the venue via High Court-Doyel Chattar. Their vehicles will be parked at Gulistan area.
Road stretching from Shahbagh to Matsya Bhaban will be off-limits for general people and traffic will be regulated around the Suhrawardy Udyan.
Diversions may be implemented for the movement of prime minister and other personalities from morning to till the end of the programme at various intersections like Banglamotor, Shahbagh, Katabon, Nilkhet, Palashi and some others.
