Staff Reporter :
Police have arrested many snatchers, thieves and robbers during a special operation in Covid-19 situation.
In continuation of this and in a bid to control the crime, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken initiative to update the information of the tenants by visiting every house in the city.
And for this reason, the ‘Citizen Information Collection Fortnightly’ will be observed from January 1 to January 15. The citizens could be able to fill the ‘citizen information form’ through mobile apps staying at home. The DMP Commissioner has already circulated a letter regarding this matter to all officials concerned and departments to start working on the matter.
DMP Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam has requested the landlords, tenants and locals of the capital city to cooperate with the police in this regard.
The DMP had formally started collecting citizen information since September 2016 and updated the database in a one-week programme in 2019.
While presiding over a meeting on Sunday in connection with the latest move, DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said that many families had migrated from Dhaka to different remote areas during the Covid-19 outbreak and owners rented their vacant houses and flats to bachelors where majority were unknown.
He said that there had been some arrests made by police in the capital recently but the police could not able to extract any important information about the arrestees for uploading in the Citizen Information Management System (CIMS) database.
The police will collect house owners’ and tenants’ information for updating the ‘CIMS’ database, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (DC) for media Walid Hossain.
He also said that information of all the house owners and tenants would be collected through 306 beat policing zones.
The citizen information process helps in taking preventive measures and it also contributes to detecting crimes and criminals, he added.
City dwellers can give input on their information through a beat policing officer or fill up the required form by downloading CIMS application in their Smart phones, said the police officer.
DMP inaugurated the mobile app in September 2019. The app is now available in Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
