DMP arrests 62 for selling, consuming drugs in city

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 62 people on the charges of selling and consuming drugs, during different anti-narcotics drives in the last 24 hours till 6am on Thursday.
The Detective Branch (DB) of the DMP in association with local police stations carried out the simultaneous drives starting at 6am on Wednesday.
A total of 29,110 yaba tablets, 260 grams of heroin, 1.12 kgs of cannabis and 30 cans of beer were recovered from the arrested persons’ possession, said a DMP press release here.
A total of 43 cases have been filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act in these regards.
Meanwhile, a team of DMP Detective Lalbagh Division arrested two drug dealers along with 20,800 pieces of yaba in Tejgaon area.
The arrested are Mohammad Syed Hossain alias Shahed Ali alias Syed Ali, 42, and Kamrul Islam Babu alias Babu, 27.
A microbus used to transport yaba was seized at that time.
Madhusudan Das, Assistant Commissioner of police for the organized crime and car theft prevention team, said they were arrested in a raid in the Love Road area on Wednesday.
There are several cases against the arrested Syed Hossain in different police stations of the country including the capital, added the official.
