Initially it has proved the Garo girl was gang-raped in a running microbus in the city’s Kuril area on Thursday night as the forensic experts of Dhaka Medical College Hospital [DMCH] primarily found the evidence in the victim’s body. The doctors at Forensic Medicine Department of DMCH on Saturday confirmed that the 21-year-old indigenous girl was gang-raped.
“We have found the signs of recent forceful sexual intercourse in the victim’s body after primarily examining her. The final report will be given within seven days,” Habibuzzaman Chowdhury, Chief of the Forensic and Medicine Department, said.
“Police of Bhatara Police Station brought the victim to the Forensic Department of the hospital yesterday morning where Dr Mamataj Ara performed the examination”, Habibuzzaman said.
“Since, it is very sensitive matter, we will provide the report within shortest possible time,” he also said.
Meanwhile, the law enforcing agencies are yet to nab any one involved in the incident although she was picked up from in front of several persons at crowded bus stoppage.
Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police [DMP] Gulshan Zone Khandoker Lutful Kabir yesterday said that they have identified one person involved in the incident of gang rape.
“We have got the name from the victim’s statement. We are trying to trace the culprit by tracking down his cellular phone and other ways,” he said.
The sister of the victim claimed that her sister (victim) identified a man who had visited her at the workplace last week with a foreign woman and enquired about her residence, wage and family.
“She (the victim) said that the man was among the five who raped her,” the sister said. “I think she’ll recognise the man from the shop’s CCTV footage.”
The family members of the victim further alleged that they were harassed when they went to lodge case against the culprits at three police stations. They had to wait long hours and visit three police stations to lodge the case, they said.
Just after the incident, they went to Turag Police Station around 4am as it was nearest to their home. But they were turned down by the police saying that the incident took place under the jurisdiction of other police station.
An hour later, they went to Gulshan Police Station but got the same reply. Finally, they went to Bhatara Police Station around 6am. They had to wait there for three hours as the OC was not present.
The OC came at around 9:30am and registered the case after listening to them, the elder sister said.
The victim’s sister said that she (victim) was waiting opposite of the Jamuna Future Park for a bus to go to Uttara after finishing her job around 9:15pm on Thursday.
“Suddenly a microbus stopped in front of her and two youths forced her on to it. There were three others inside the vehicle. They raped her on the moving vehicle before dumping at Uttara’s Jashimuddin Road around 10:45pm,” she said.
According to her, the microbus slowly circled the Kuril Biswa Road and the street in front of the Future Park several times while her sister was being molested.
When contacted, Inspector of Bhatara Police Station Md Sajjad Hossain said that the family of the 21-year-old girl filed a case on Friday.
“We are investigating the incident giving highest importance,” the police officer said.
