Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) is taking highest preparation to receive the COVID-19 patients.
On Sunday, it was seen that staff of the burnt unit of DMCH are carrying various instruments into the Burn Unit, as suspected people with virus symptoms will be isolated and tested there.
But for getting more information about the preparation, the New Nation tried to contact with the physicians and health workers, but they didn’t respond.
One of the minor staff who was carrying the instruments into the burn unit told the New Nation that it may take two more days to take better preparation.
Earlier, DMCH Director AKM Nasir told the media that the burn unit would be dedicated for treatment of COVID-19 patients.
The unit will accommodate around 300 COVID-19 patients for treating some suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients immediately, said DMCH Director. The hospital is going to start such treatments ignoring patients and some expert physicians’ objections, Director added.
A number of doctors of DMCH, however, opposed the decision of turning the burn unit into COVID-19 treatment center, as the DMCH is a major hospital where patients are referred to from across the country.
But the Health Ministry finally issued a circular in this regard saying as more facilities were needed for COVID-19 treatment, the burn unit would now be used exclusively for treating such patients. At present, Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital, Mudga General Hospital, and Ma O Shishu Hospital in Mirpur are treating COVID-19 patients.
