The Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) authority has stopped the admission of the patients in its COVID-19 treatment unit since Wednesday due to seat crisis. During a visit in the Covid-19 treatment unit of the DMCH on Thursday it was seen that the emergency section was patient zero point. Meanwhile, a total of eight persons died in the corona unit of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the last 24 hours. The deceased are identified as SM Jakwan (58), a resident of Sher Shah Road, Dhaka, Shamsul Haque (60), and Abul Bashar (52) from Keraniganj, Farid (26) for Shampur of Dhaka, Nazrul Islam (65) from Muladi in Barishal, Shamsul Huq (60) from Mirpur in Dhaka, Liton (45) from Tongibari area of Munshiganj and Abdul Zabbar (55) of Louhajong. The patients who were coming for treatment had been sent to other hospitals without any checkup. A notice was hanged before the emergency unit writing “We are sorry to inform you that we don’t have any vacant seat. So you can go to Kurmitola or Mugda Hospital.” A doctor of the emergency section of COVID-19 treatment unit of the DMCH said that they had stopped the admission of the corona patients since Wednesday and that is why they hanged the notice. It was seen that many people were returning home being unable to get admission in the hospital. Rahmat Ali, 70, came to the corona unit for treatment from Dhamrai upazila of Dahka with his son Rashidul Islam. They came to know that the authority had stopped the admission of the patients as there was no more seat for the patients. However, Rashidul stayed for a while in the hospital with his father. Finally he returned home with his father helplessly. Mizanur Rahman brought her mother, Samina Begum, 60, to the corona unit for the treatment from Hazaribagh of the capital city. They were also bound to return without any treatment. Mizanur said “My mother is sick for a long time. We went to the Ad-din Hospital at Moghbazar for mother’s treatment. They also refused to admit her in the hospital. And now we are failing to get admission here (DMCH) too.” Deputy Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Alauddin Al Azad said that the corona patients had to be kept in the hospital maintaining particular distances. If the bed becomes empty, the patient will be admitted, he added.
