DMCH among 5 govt hospitals begin vaccination trial run today

About 100 medical staff including physicians, nurses, and members of law enforcement agencies will get jabs at the basement of Dhaka Medical College & Hospital (DMCH)’s emergency unit, the largest hospital of Bangladesh, in the vaccination trial run today (Thursday).
The program is scheduled to start at 9am.
“We hope to provide the jabs to 100 staffs of our institution at the first phase,” said DMCH Director Brigadier General Dr. Nazmul Haque while talking to the New Nation on Wednesday.
We are completely prepared for the first phase of inoculations and we strongly believe that DMCH will stand beside the people during this national crisis like the previous time, he said.the New Nation that they have rapid response team, if someone feels weakness after taking the jab, the team will visit the patient for immediate treatment.
Besides, none will be allowed leaving the hospital after taking the jab. They have to wait minimum half an hour for the observation, DMCH AD added.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque is also supposed to be present during the vaccination program, AD further said.
The Burn Unit building in front of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s emergency unit has been using for the treatment of the coronavirus patients since the countrywide Covid-19 outbreak began.
It is mentionable that mass inoculations programme of Covid-19 across the country will start on February 7 with seven million vaccine doses in stock.
Besides, vaccination in limited scale among frontline health workers has started at Kurmitola General Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
After that, mass scale vaccination is going to start in five more government hospitals in the capital today.
About 400 to 500 people will be vaccinated in city’s Kurmitola General Hospital, DMCH, Mugda General Hospital, Kuwait Friendship Hospital and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on the day.
After keeping them under observation for a week, countrywide vaccination will start across the country from February 7, sources said.
About 25 health workers already have been inoculated at the very beginning in the hospital yesterday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the programme through video conference from her office.
Earlier, Zahid Maleque also visited the vaccination centers at DMCH and BSMMU. The health minister said that soon after the inauguration of the app, Surokkha, the website, www.surokkha.gov.bd, will be launched to register people for getting the vaccine.
According to sources, the health workers, freedom fighters, members of law enforcement agencies, army and other forces, journalists, government officials, public representatives, employees of city corporations and municipalities, and religious leaders will get the shots initially.
Sources from the health ministry said, that the government has prepared the plan for vaccinating people with a target to give two doses of jabs to each of over 130 million people to eliminate the fatal virus.
As per the plan, a total of 138,247,000 people will be vaccinated in five stages.
Earlier, five million doses of Oxford- AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine arrived in Dhaka and two million doses of the vaccine also arrived on Thursday as gift from the Indian government.
 “Now the vaccine is ready for use,” DGDA Director General Major General Md Mahbubur Rahman said at a press conference.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Drug Administration approved the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines for use in Bangladesh on Tuesday.
