The farmers of Mymensingh division got compensation on Saturday for losing their cattle after infected by Zoonotic diseases.
The Department of Livestock Services (DLS) distributed around Tk 40.8 lakh as compensation among the victim farmers at a programme held in the VTI conference room, Mymensingh.
Director (Administration) of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) Dr. Debashish Das. Dr. Pradeep Kumar Halder, Director, VTI, Mymensingh and Dr. Md. Azizul Islam, Project Director, Veterinary Public Health Service Strengthening Project on Public Health Protection, were present as Special Guests.
Dr. Manoranjan Dhar, Director, DLS, Mymensingh Division presided over the programme.
The officials jointly handed over as compensation a cheque of Tk 40 lakh and 80 thousand among 56 victim farmers of the division.
The farmers expressed their happiness saying such compensation might help them recovering their losses and will be highly helpful to resume their agricultural activities.
Project Director Dr. Md. Azizul Islam, Dr Azizur Rahman said the department has already distributed Tk 1.09 crore among the farmers.
He said that the Veterinary Health Service is Strengthening to Protect Public Health Project is underway in 201 upazilas of 27 districts.
Officials said Zoonetic disease is transmittable from animals to humans. The project has been taken to identify the risk of contamination of the disease among human and to strengthen veterinary laboratories across the country.
They said that Tk 80,000 have been distributed under the project in case of losing a cow and buffalo from the disease and Tk 40,000 for losing a calf will be given till 2023, officials said.
Officials said the department is distributing money under the project following process for assess the risk of public health from the livestock.
