World number one Novak Djokovic will not take part in the ATP Cup in Sydney in January, Serbian daily Blic reported on Saturday.
His country, Serbia qualified for the event based on the ranking of their best men’s player, Djokovic, and are grouped with Norway, Chile and Spain.
To play the tournament, a player must be vaccinated for Covid-19. Djokovic has declined to disclose whether he is vaccinated or not.
Australian Open chief Craig Tiley said on Wednesday that he is still uncertain whether Djokovic will be playing at the Melbourne Park major.
Tiley said, “If Novak shows up at the Australian Open, he’ll either be vaccinated or he’ll have a medical exemption.”
If the Serbian doesn’t disclose the vaccinated issue, he will miss the Australian Open as well. The big event will start on January 17.
