Diya Siddique-Hakim Ahmed Rubel duo of Bangladesh won silver in Recurve Mixed Double event of the Asian Archery Championship at the Army Stadium in Banani on Friday. Diya-Rubel duo lost to their Korean opponents by 5-1 set points in the final. This is for the first time that, Bangladesh archers collected silver medal in Asian Archery Championship.
Earlier, Diya Siddique, Beauty Roy and Nasrin Akter of Bangladesh bagged bronze medal in the Recurve Women’s Team event defeating Vietnam by 5-2 set points in the ongoing Asian Archery Championship on Wednesday last. It was for the first time Bangladesh Archers achieved medal in Asian Archery Championship, the most prestigious archery competition of Asia.
Besides, Ruman Shana, Hakim Ahmed Rubel and Ram Krishna Saha won bronze medal in the Compound Men’s Team event beating Kazakhstan by 6-2 points at the same venue on Wednesday last.
It may be mentioned that Diya Siddique-Hakim Ahmed Rubel faced their Korean opponents yeasterday, who bagged gold medal in Rio Olympics.
After the final match, Coach of Bangladesh Archery Federation Martin Frederick said, ” I am happy with their performance. Both of them performed well. We could not win the gold medal but my archers claimed silver.” Martin said, ” It was the arena for final. My archers will take time to show better performance in this stage after some time. However, they played well in the last set.”
Diya Siddique said, ” We performed well in this total competition. We tried to play well in the final. Our starting was not satisfactory but our we played well in the ending of the match. We have to make high our confidence level.”
Hakim Ahmed Rubel said, ” There are lot of things for us to learn more from our defeat. We understood our mistakes. We shall try to perform well in future. However, I am very happy for our performance. This is my best achievement in my international archery campaign.”
