The day long divisional round of Science Olympiad 2015 on different branches of science was held at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) auditorium on Friday.
The programme was organized by Bangladesh Biggyan (Science) Academy in collaboration with Daily Samakal.
Prof Dr Md Shamsuddin, vice chancellor PSTU inaugurated the programme as chief guest. Among others Prof Muhammad Ali, representative Bangladesh Biggyan (Science) Academy and Proctor PSTU, Pulak Chatterjee, Barisal bureau chief of Daily Samakal were addressed.
The speakers said it could play vital role in developing study and knowledge on different branches of science among the youths in grass root level. 139 students from different schools and 141 students from different colleges of different upazilas of the division participated in the competition. Fifteen competitors from school and 15 from colleges awarded prizes and five from each group received gold medals of the competition. The gold medalist winners from school-group were Oliuzzaman Oli of Betagi pilot school, Rupa Das Polin of Patuakhali Government Girls School, Joy Das of Patuakhali Government Jubilee School, Pitam Das of Baufal Model School, and Mehedi Hasan Anik of Srijani Bidya Niketan at PSTU.
From college-group gold medalists were Abu Saleh of Barisal Amrita Lal Dey College, Imran Hossain of Baufal Degree College, Selina Aktar Santa, Solaiman Hossain and Showkat Imam Soikat of Janata College Dumki.
The successful winners have been qualified to participate in national level competition of the Olympiad, organisers said.
