Speakers at a seminar said, ensuring optimal breastfeeding plays the most crucial role to substantially reduce infant mortality rate and normal growth of babies in the process of building a healthier nation. They said, holistic approach has become indispensable to make the children nutritionally enriched to build them fit for facing the challenges of the 21st century.
The said these while addressing at the seminar on ‘World Breast Feeding Week’ organized by Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering of Daffodil International University (DIU) on Sunday.
“World Breastfeeding Week 2017” was observed with elaborate program at DIU with the theme “Sustaining Breastfeeding Together” to disseminate the scientific evidence based knowledge for the development of awareness for breastfeeding. Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering of Daffodil International University chalked out elaborate program including Rally and Seminar.
To mark the week a rally lead by Prof Dr Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor was brought out today on the day from the main campus of the university and surrounded the main streets of the city. The rally was also participated by Prof Dr SM Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro-VC, Hamidul Haque Khan, Treasurer, Prof Dr AI Mustafa, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS), Prof Engr AKM Fazlul Haque, Registrar of DIU. A large number of students, faculty members and civil society members participated in the rally.
Later on a seminar based on the theme of the week “Sustaining Breastfeeding Together” was held at Auditorium- 71 of the university. Prof Dr Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor of DIU was present as Chief Guest in the seminar while Treasurer, Hamidul Haque Khan was present as special guest and Prof Dr AI Mustafa, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS) was present as Guest of Honor. Prof Dr Md. Bellal Hossain, Head, Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering delivered the keynote speech in the seminar. The seminar was also addressed by Md. Rezaul Islam, Divisional Officer (DO), Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation and Dr Md. Mahmudul Hasan, Assistant Professor of NFE, DIU. A video related to breast-feeding provided by the Bangladesh Breast-Feeding Foundation was presented in the seminar.
