‘World Breastfeeding Week – 2016’ was observed with elaborate program at Daffodil International University (DIU) with the theme “Breastfeeding: a key to Sustainable Development” to disseminate the scientific evidence based knowledge for the development of awareness for breastfeeding. Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering of DIU chalked out weeklong program including rally seminar workshop and discussion meeting.
To mark the week, a rally participated by high officials, students, teachers and civil society members led by Hamidul Haque Khan, Treasurer of DIU was brought out from the main campus of the university and paraded the city streets recently.
Based on the theme “Breastfeeding: a key to Sustainable Development” a discussion meeting was arranged at DIU auditorium recently. Prof Dr Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor of DIU was present as chief guest while Prof Dr AI Mustafa, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS) was present as special guest.
The keynote speaker of this program was Prof Mohammod Shahidullah, Chairman, Department of Pediatric Neonatology and Former Pro VC, BSMMU and another speaker in that program was Prof Dr MSA Mansur Ahmed, Department of Public Health, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, DIU. Presided over by Prof Dr Md Bellal Hossain, Head, Dept. of NFE, the seminar was also addressed by Dr Md. Shajahan, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Public Health, Tasmia Tasnim, Lecturer of NFE, DIU.
Speakers at the seminar said, ensuring optimal breastfeeding plays the most crucial role to substantially reduce infant mortality rate and normal growth of babies in the process of building a healthier nation. They said, holistic approach has become indispensable to make the children nutritionally enriched to build them fit for facing the challenges of the 21st century.
