DIU holds workshop on skilled manpower in RMG

Textile Engineering Department of Daffodil International University (DIU) has been organized a workshop on ‘Development of Outcome Based Curriculum’ which was held on Monday at 71 Milonayoton of the University.
Md. Siddiqur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) was present at the workshop as chief guest while Engr MS Zaman, Managing Director of Micro Fiber Group was present as special guest. Presided over by Dr Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of DIU, Prof Dr Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor of DIU, Prof Dr SM Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro Vice Chancellor of DIU, Dr Md. Mahbubul Haque, Prof and Head, Department of Textile, Prof Dr AKM Fazlul Haque, Director of IQAC, Abu Taher Khan, Director of CDC and other industry leaders from garments sector were also present at the program.
While addressing as chief guest Siddiqur Rahman said that we have lots of public and private universities in the country and a large number of graduates are passing out from those universities but industries don’t get properly skilled manpower equipped with quality education as they required. The reason behind this is that there is no collaboration with industry and academy. That is why in spite of huge number of graduates, the industry cannot find their required skilled person. It’s very necessary to bring change on course curriculum to overcome the present scenario. In the mean time he thanked to Daffodil International University authority for arranging such workshop titled ‘Development of Outcome Based Curriculum’.
BGMEA president urged the students to build career in garments sectors as there prevails immense opportunity as it’s a thrust sector and Bangladesh is leading in this sector. To uphold this situation in coming days, he underscored the need of necessary development and modification of the present course curriculum.  
Dr Md. Sabur Khan in his presidential address said that Daffodil International University is doing various activities to change the course curriculum and make the course curriculum time befitting. Today’s work is one of the Endeavours of those activities. DIU regularly organizes industry academia lecture series where successful entrepreneurs share their knowledge and experiences among the students. DIU helps the entrepreneurship minded students through providing Venture Capital facilities. DIU has introduced Department of Entrepreneurship, he added.
Dr Md. Sabur Khan also said that a lot of foreign officers are working in garments sector of Bangladesh who sends huge amount of remittance to their native country just only utilizing their technological knowledge and expertise. Because we have not such level of expert people like them due to lack of developed course curriculum, he added.
