DIU co-hosts 23rd ASEF Summer University 2021

Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) is organizing the 23rd ASEF Summer University 2021 (ASEFSU23) on “Liveable Cities for a Sustainable Future” in partnership with Daffodil International University (DIU), Bangladesh and other international partners; where DIU is playing a significant role as the country representative of Bangladesh.
This is a 3-month long (Sep-Nov) virtual Hackathon program to encourage youths from over 40 countries to develop digital prototypes that can contribute to solving crucial challenges linked to urban issues in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. As a part of the consecutive segments of the Hackathon, recently incorporating the Pre-Hack-Phase, there has been a web session on Bangladesh for the participants focusing on ‘Creating Clean Cities:
Tackling Waste Management in Dhaka’. The session has been a great gathering of Waste Management practicing organizations and expert speakers of this field to disseminate Bangladesh perspectives among the dynamic local and International attendants.
Tariq bin Yousuf, Additional Chief Engineer & Project Director, Dhaka North City Corporation along with Mr. Khadem Mahmud Yusuf Managing Director & CEO of Bangladesh Petrochemical Company Ltd (BPCL) have been the resource speakers to share present practices, future ventures of the industries, and challenges of this field in the country’s perspective. The session was moderated by Mr. Sheikh Mohammad Rezwan, Head, Dept. of Architecture, DIU who is also a practitioner of the same kind.
As an integral part of the whole program, Syed Raihan-Ul-Islam, Sr. Assistant Director, International Affairs has shared DIU’s multidimensional prospects on this web platform as the country representative.
The session provided the participants with local insights and introduced contemporary burning issues for a depth knowledge; as well as updated them on the diverse challenges linked to waste management in Dhaka Metropolitan Area. Also, successfully informed participants about existing policies set by the government and shared practical examples of the initiatives to tackle social issues through interactive knowledge exchanging participation.
This has been a successful country session in cooperation with the ASEF committee, expert speakers, participating country coordinators, team leaders, mentors and all the participants.
