DIU celebrates ‘World Food Day 2018’

To mark the World Food Day 2018 Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering (NFE) of Daffodil International University (DIU) in collaboration with Northern Consumers Products Ltd organized a seminar and brought out a rally Tuesday. Based on the theme of this year’s ‘A zero hunger world by 2030 is possible’ a rally comprised with teachers and students were brought out from main campus of the university and surrounded the main roads of Dhanmondi area and ended at Daffodil Tower.
After the rally, all participants joined the seminar titled ‘Our Actions are Our Future’ at 71Milonayoton of the university. Prof Dr Md. Bellal Hossain, Head, Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering presented a keynote paper on ‘Sunflower Edible Oil and Health Benefits’ at the seminar. Presided over by Prof Dr Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor of DIU, the program was also addressed by Prof Dr SM Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro Vice Chancellor of DIU, Tim Russel, Chief of Party of Feed the Future Bangladesh Rice and Diversified Crops Activity, USAID, Mahbub Ul Alam, National Sales Manager, Northern Consumer Products Ltd, Md. Nurul Islam, Head of Procurement, M & J Group. The program was conducted by Dr Amir Ahmed, Faculty of Nutrition and Food Engineering Department, DIU.
While addressing on the seminar Tim Russel said that it’s really wondrous to achieve food sufficiency for 16 million people in a very small land. Bangladesh has already done this marvelous work successfully. Most of the people are involved with agriculture in this country. They are too much industrial and talented. Bangladesh has been achieved food sufficiency only for their contribution. Now Bangladesh should emphasis on nutrition and food safety. He added.
Addressing on the program Mahbub Ul Alam said that Northern Consumer has produced sunflower oil first time in Bangladesh. For this they had arranged training for farmer to cultivate sunflower. He said, in the southern area of Bangladesh they are conducting a farmers’ team which is led by Mr. Tim Russel and that team are cultivating sunflower. Northern Consumer collect sunflower from them and produce sunflower oil.
