The month-long 21st Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF)-2016 is going to bag record amount of revenue earnings in the form of value added tax as the fair trades were much better than those of the previous years following political stability and sound weather this year.
According to the customs officials at the fair, it was learnt that around Tk 1.5 crore worth VAT have been realised till the 27th day of the ongoing mega expo fair, more than double than the VAT realization of the previous fair’s same period. The customs officials hoped that the VAT realization amount would touch the figure of Tk 2 crore at the end of the DITF’16.
Rakibul Hasan, deputy commissioner of Customs Excise and VAT, said a large number of buyers and visitors are swarming to the stalls and pavilions of different companies from the very beginning of this year’s DITF. With the increase of visitors and buyers, the fair’s participants are also witnessing sound business and thus the amount of revenue earnings as VAT was also increased more than twice than the previous years, he added.
This year, Walton has paid the highest amount of VAT till today (Wednesday), he said adding, the local brand is spontaneously depositing a good amount of VAT every day of the fair.
