The 26th edition of the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) is expected to begin on January 1 next year on its new venue at Purbachal in Dhaka.
The organisers are taking preparation in full swing and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the fair like the previous years.
The premier also inaugurated the new fair site at Purbachal in October this year.
The commerce ministry and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) are going to organise the DITF at the Purbachal site for the first time as the previous venue at Agargaon is too small to accommodate a large number of participants and visitors.
Every year, the DITF causes a long traffic jam and congestion especially at Agargaon, Mirpur, Mohammadpur and the adjacent areas, which encouraged the commerce ministry to shift the venue to Purbachal.
January 1 has been fixed as the date for beginning the fair and the last time preparations are underway, said AHM Ahsan, vice-chairman of the EPB.
The fair venue has a large space, so it will not be a problem to accommodate big companies at Purbachal, he said.
Many big companies could not display their goods properly for the space constrain at the previous venue at Agargaon, he said.
