Also, the government has earned Tk1.5 crore in Value-Added Tax (VAT) from the month-long fair that ended on Monday. The disclosure was made at the closing ceremony of the fair held at Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal, on the outskirts of the capital. Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, FBCCI President Jashim Uddin and Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh were present at the event. It was disclosed that the fair sold products worth Tk40 crore.
Earlier on 1 January, the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) kicked off after a one-year gap amid the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020, the DITF was cancelled because of severe fallouts of the pandemic.
Some 227 companies from 11 countries participated at the fair this year. Apart from Bangladesh, companies from India, Pakistan, Turkey, Thailand and South Korea are participating in this year’s edition of the fair. Every day the fair remained open from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm in the weekdays and in the weekends the fair continued until 10:00 pm.
The companies showcased their goods in 23 pavilions, 27 mini pavilions and in 162 stalls, where some 15 food shops operated. The entry fee for an adult was fixed at Tk 40 and Tk 20 for minors while the entry was free for freedom fighters.
