2 teenage girls’ bodies recovered in B’baria

Police recovered the hanging bodies of two teenage girls from near Kuti Post office in Kasba upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Sonia, 13, daughter of Billal Mia and Sumaiya, 14, daughter of Babul Mia of Kuti uttarpara area. Being informed by locals, police recovered the bodies of the girls from an abandoned place in the afternoon, said Lokman Hosain, officer-in-charge of Kasba Police Station. It is primarily suspected that the girls might have killed themselves by hanging from the tree but police are investigating the incident, said the OC.

‘Criminal’ killed in Gazipur ‘gunfight’

A suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Habibpur in Gazipur’s Kaliakoir upazila early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hanif, 30, son of Kanchan Shikdar of Shaheb Rampur of Kalkini upazila of Madaripur district. Police conducted a drive in the area around 3am, said Sub-inspector Mufti Mahmud, of Kaliakoir Police Station. Criminals opened fire on police, triggering a skirmish.
At one stage, Hanif was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries while the others managed to flee the scene. Later, he was taken to Kaliakoir Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.
Hanif used to live at his in-law’s house in Kaliakoir and was wanted in 10 criminal cases, said the SI.
Four policemen were injured during the gunfight. A one shutter gun, one LG gun and three cartridges were recovered from the spot.

ICT prosecutor Rana Dasgupta, wife test positive for coronavirus

Rana Dasgupta, prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, and his wife have been tested positive for coronavirus.
He has been suffering from fever and sore throat for the last several days, said the prosecutor himself.

1083 infected in Kishoreganj

At least 86 more people have been infected with COVID–19 in Kishoreganj district in last 24 hours till Thursday afternoon.
Concerning the matter, Civil Surgeon of Kishoreganj Dr Mujibur Rahman told the New Nation that the number of virus patients in the district now stood at 1083 with the infection and at least 362 men recovers from Coronavirus in 13 Upazillas of Kishoreganj.
Civil Surgeon also said that they got samples of 234 at IEDCR and 94at Syed Nazrul Islam medical college to be infected with virus .
Among the infected men in kishoreganj Sadar 186 , Bhairab 411, Karimganj 76, Hossionpur 25Tarail 68, Pakundia 49, Katiadi 58, Kuliarchar 77Nikli 17, Bajitpur 63,Itna 24, Mitamoion 27 and Austagram 6.
So far 19 died of Corona -infections in kishoreganj.

Tk 35 lakh snatched in Rajshahi

Tk 35 lakh were snatched from man at Alkar Mor, a busy area of Rajshahi metropolis. The incident took place around 12:30 pm on Thursday while an employee going to deposit money at the nearby Dutch Bangla Bank from the ‘Vivo’ mobile showroom.
Boalia Model Police said an employee from the Vivo showroom at the city’s Alkar Mor was going to deposit Tk 35 lakh in cash at the nearby Dutch Bangla Bank. At that time, the miscreants snatched the bag belonging to him on the road.
Rinku, owner of Vivo Mobile Brand’s showroom, confirmed the matter. Boalia police later visited the spot.
However, after inspecting the scene and seeing the CCTV footage, the police initially think that the matter could have been arranged, not an incident of snatching.
