5 die in Cumilla with Covid-19-like symptoms in 24 hrs

Five people died at Comilla Medical College Hospital with Covid-19-like symptoms in the last 24 hours.
A total of 126 patients, including 71 Covid-19 patients, are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, said its Assistant Director Dr Sajeda Khatun.
Besides, 18 people are receiving treatment at the ICU and 37 are admitted to the isolation ward, she said.
According to the Civil Surgeon’s office, 49 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in the district in 24 hours until Saturday, bringing the tally to 5,823.
So far, 150 people have died of Covid-19 and with Covid-like symptoms while 4,358 people made full recovery.

‘BNS Sangram’ sails for Lebanon to join UNIFIL

Bangladesh Navy corvette ‘BNS Sangram’ on Sunday departed Chattogramm jetty for Lebanon to join UN peacekeeping operations UNIFIL.
Rear Admiral M Mahbub ul Islam, the commander BN Fleet, was present at that time.
High Navy officials, departing officials and their families were also present, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
‘BNS Sangram’ will take charge from ‘BNS Bijoy’ which has been working in the peacekeeping mission of UNIFIL as a member of the Multinational Maritime Taskforce in the Mediterranean Sea for last 32 months.
Fifteen officials and 95 sailors, led by ‘BNS Sangram’ captain Faysal MArifur Rahman Bhuiyan, two years and -and-eight years, are participating in the peace mission.

Couple found dead in Moulvibazar

A couple was found dead in their house in Sreemangal of Moulvibazar on Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Bipul Tantabay, 42, and his wife Alaka Tantabay, 35, residents of Boulchara garden area in the upazila. Alaka was a registered worker at Boulchara tea garden.
Police found Bipul hanging while hacked body of Alaka.
Khokan Karmakar, member of ward no: 8 in Mirzapur union and a resident in the same area, suspect that the husband might have killed the wife over family feud and then, hanged himself.
Shuva Tantabay, daughter of the couple, said she found her parents’ bodies in the morning. She said they had good relations.
Sreemangal Police Station officer in-charge (Investigation) Sohel Rana said they are investigating the matter. Initially it seems the incident might have taken place over family issues.

Anti dengue programme of Ansar and VDP in Gaibandha

Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Party (VDP), Gaibandha has been conducting a programme to check dengue fever in the district through various activities for one year.
On Saturday morning, the members of Bangladesh ansar and VDP here conducted a cleanliness drive at ansar and VDP training centre in Dhanghara area and brought out an awareness rally from there with the theme ‘Prevention is better than cure’.
District commandant of Ansar and VDP Aftekharul Islam participated in the drive and led the rally as the chief guest and assistant district commandant of Ansar and VDP Towhiduzzaman took part in the activities as the special guest.

Maestro artist SM Sultan’s 96th birth anniversary today

The legendary artist SM Sultan’s 96th birth anniversary will be observed at his residence in Masumdia-Kurigram area of the district today.
On the day, SM Sultan Foundation and Narail district administration have chalked out different programmes at Sultan Smriti Sangrahasala today morning.
The programmes include Quran Khwani at Sultan’s grave, Doa-Mahfil, paying tributes to the iconic artist by placing wreaths at Sultan Smriti Sangrahasala.

Covid-19 cases cross 7,300 in Rangpur division

The number of coronavirus (Covid-19) crossed the 7,300 mark yesterday morning in Rangpur division following continuous rise in the daily number of infections in recent weeks in the division.
“The patients’ number jumped to 7,349 with 152 more infections reported after testing 470 samples on Saturday at two Covid-19 Laboratories in the division,” Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

Covid-19 cases reach 906 in Manikganj

A total of 906 people were tested positive for Covid-19 in the district, civil surgeon Dr. Anwarul Amin Akanda said yesterday. A total of 906 people were tested positive after testing 8,064 samples in the district, the civil surgeon said.
Besides, of the total infected patients, 834 have, so far, recovered from the deadly disease with 12 fatalities and others are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.
Civil Surgeon Office sources said 60 patients are under treatment in the district and 47 of them are at their respective homes and 13 are at Manikganj sadar hospital.

Politechnic students oppose admission age limit

Students on Saturday morning formed a human chain protesting withdrawal of age limit for admission in polytechnic institutions.
The programme was organized in front of Barishal Ashwini Kumar Hall by a group of students of Barishal Government Polytechnic Institute.
It was presided over by Luthfar Rahman, a fourth year student of Civil Technology Department. The programme was addressed among others, by Sanaul Islam, Sabab Ahmed, Md. Bakhtiar and Abu Jubayer.

Flood situation in Kurigram improves

The flood situation of Kurigram has been already improved. The water level of all rivers including Brahmaputra, Dharla and Tista are flowing under the danger level at different points for last 5 days.The char, island char, river side areas and villages of low-lying areas were flooded by water and more than 3 lakh people have been marooned in the last flood.
A flood control embankment of Sarodob area under Sadar upazila and 50 metres embankment of Burirhat Bazar area in Razarhat Upazila washed away causing a good number of houses damaged in the flood,Water Development Board sources said. Executive Engineer of Kurigram WDB Ariful Islam told that 100-150 feet of the embankment washed away by heavy current of the Dharla River.

FF Gulzer Hussain’s 1st death anniversary today

The first death anniversary of Advocate Gulzer Hussain, an associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and an organizer of the Liberation War, will be observed in Netrakona district town today (Monday).
His family sources said, Gulzer Hussain was appointed secretary of BAKSAL, Netrakona district unit by Bangabandhu in 1975. He was also the acting general secretary of Awami League Netrakona district unit during the period between 1979 and 1983.

A songster dies of corona symptoms in Bagerhat

Riton Mondol (35), a reputed songster of Bagerhat district town and a music teacher of Bagerhat Shilpokala Academy died of corona symptoms in Bagerhat Sadar Hospital on Friday. His body was cremated at Bagerhat Munignaj Central Maha Shasan (crematory) on the same day. He was simple in his life style and well-behaved all through his life.
No sample of his blood was taken from him by the concerned authority for corona test; it was disclosed by his relatives. He hailed from the village Haldibunia under Mongla Upazila in the district and son of one Laksmikanta Mondol of the village.

Young man electrocuted in Sharankhola

A young man named Rubel Hawladar (22) met tragic end of his life when he was electrocuted near a sluice gate at Rayenda, Upazila headquarters of Sharankhola in Bagerhat district on Wednesday. The deceased was the son of one Firoj Hawladar of the sluice gate area.
It is learnt from the police that in the evening while ill-fated Rubel was removing the live wires of his duck farm, situated near the sluice gate, he was, somehow, electrocuted and fell into an adjacent canal. Relatives rescued him from the canal and rushed him to Sharankhola Upozila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead. In this connection a UD case was lodged with the local PS.
