Natore DC, Civil Surgeon among 30 infected with coronavirus

Thirty people, including the Deputy Commissioner and Civil Surgeon of Natore, have been found infected with coronavirus.
According to sources at the Civil Surgeon’s office, Civil Surgeon Dr Kazi Mizanur Rahman and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shah Riaz was tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday.
Besides, additional superintendent of (Sadar Circle) Police Abul Hasnat and four members of his family, including his wife and two children, were diagnosed with the highly contagious virus.
Meanwhile, the death toll from coronavirus stood at 3,000 in Bangladesh with the death of 35 more people on Tuesday. Besides, health authorities confirmed the detection of 2,960 new cases, taking the number of confirmed cases to 2,29,185. The country reported its first coronavirus cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.

CU VC’s husband Latiful dies of Covid-19

Major (retd) Latiful Alam Chowdhury, husband of Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Shirin Akhter, died of Covid-19 at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Chattogram early Wednesday.
Latiful Alam, also a freedom fighter, breathed his last around 1:30 am at the ICU of the hospital, according to his family members.
His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at Chattogram Cantonment at 11 am while the second one in Garibullah Shah area in the city after Zohar prayers.
Latiful Alam, including his wife Prof Dr Shirin Akhter and six members of the family, were found infected with coronavirus on July 12. Since then, he had been undergoing treatment at the CMH.
Meanwhile, all the other infected family members, including VC Shirin Akhter, have recovered from the disease fully.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Major (retd) Latiful Alam Chowdhury, the spouse of Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Shirin Akhter. She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.

6 die with fever, cold-related problems in Cumilla

Six people suffering from fever and cold-related problems, died at Comilla Medical College Hospital in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
A total of 103 patients, including 45 Covid-19 patients, are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, said its Assistant Director Dr Sajeda Khatun.
Besides, 10 people, including four women, were undergoing treatment at the ICU, she said.
According to the Civil Surgeon’s office, 80 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in the district in the last 24 hours, bringing the tally to 5,360. So far, 141 people have died of Covid-19 and cold-related problems while 3,563 people made full recovery.

Trade activities at Sonamasjid land port to remain suspended for 4 days

The export-import activities at Sonamasjid land port remained suspended for four days from August 1 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the Muslims.

Toufiqur Rahman Babu, general secretary of Sonamasjid land port, said the port authorities have declared four days of holiday from August 1 for Eid vacation. As a result, trade activities between the two countries remain suspended. The port activities will resume on August 5.

Mongla Port Authority fined five hundred US dollars a foreign commercial ship named MV SINA-5 for furnishing fake news. The chief officer of the ship claimed to their local Bangladeshi Agent The Sea Asia Shipping Lines that a group of thief stole their mooring rope and other materials breaking the store room on 24 July. After that , the MD of the Sea Asia Md. Akram Hossainin formed MPA of the matter . Giving emphasis on the matter, Port Authority talked to the Captain, Chief Officer and other concerned of the ship.At that time , the captain and Chief Officer of the ship admitted the fault of their self security system and apologises to MPA. Magician Sanoar Hussain Apan dies

Sanwar Hossain Apon, a member of Shahmoni Magic Academy and International Magic Organization, has died. He died in a hospital in Dhaka at 10am on Wednesday. According to his relatives, he used to live in Gazipur, Dhaka.
The previous day the urination stopped. He was rushed to the hospital and operated at night. He died at 10 am the following day. He was 38 years old at the time of his death. He learned magic at an early age. He used to show magic in many countries including BTV, RTV, Mohana TV, Channel I. His death casts a shadow of mourning.
The magician was born in Jalalpur village of Melandah upazila of Jamalpur district. Father’s name was Siraj Sheikh and mother’s name Maleka Begum. His ancestral home is in Nageshri village of Rangpur. His father became a permanent resident of Jalalpur in Melandha by business. Abdul Qayyum of his dynasty is a former Member of Parliament for the Indian state of Assam. In addition to performing magic, he worked for a gramine phone company. He is a founding member of his own village Jalalpur Theater. He is survived by his wife and one child.
7 members of inter-district dacoit gang arrested

Seven members of an inter-district dacoit gang were arrested from a canal at Marchbunia under Bisharkandi of Banaripara upazila in Barishal district on early Wednesday.
Police recovered huge sharp weapons, tools and seized two trawlers from the possession of the arrestees.
Shishir Kumar Pal, officer in charge of Banaripara police station, acknowledging the facts said, a five-member armed police team led by Sub Inspector Swapan Kumar operated the drive.
The arrested seven were identified as Hiru Dhali, 30, Yasin Haoladar, 25, of Baldia, Yasin Bahadur,25, of Nesarabad, Shahidul Haoladar, 35, Liton Sheikh,22, of Nazirpur, under Pirojpur and Tawhid, 20, Shahin Sheikh 22, of Tungipara under Gopalganj district.
Sharp weapons, pipe, crowbar, range, iron rod and two trawlers were recovered from the passion of the arrestees, OC Banaripara added.
Jafar Ahmed, officer in charge (investigation) of Banaripara police station, said the robber gang planned to loot jewelries of Marichbunia and Chowmuhini Bazaar of the upazila.
Kabir Majhi 40, of Nesarabad was leader of the gang and he managed to flee from the scene after became aware about raid of the law enforcers.
Sub Inspector Swapan Kumar as complainant lodged a case against 7 arrestees and absconding gang leader Kabir Majhi, said Jafar Ahmed OC (investigation) of Banaripara PS.
The arreste would be sent to jail after completing interrogation and producing before the court as soon as possible, he added.
