2 teachers, another held in Chandpur under Digital Security Act

Police arrested three people including two teachers from Farakkabad College campus on Sunday afternoon in a case filed under the Digital Security Act for their ‘derogatory facebook posts against education minister, upazila nirbahi officer and others’.
The arrestees are- Jahangir Alam, a teacher, Noman Siddiqi, IT in-charge of Farakkabad Degree College and ABM Anisur Rahman, a teacher of Farakkabad Madrasa. A local teacher Mohhammad Hannan filed the case against them for defaming the important personalities including the minister by using fake ID, said Rezaul Karim, sub-inspector of Chandpur Model Police Station. A team of police led by Zahid Parvez Chowdhury, additional superintendent of sadar circle police, conducted a drive on the college campus and arrested them, he added.

Accused killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

An accused in a drug case was killed in a reported gunfight with police near Khuruskul bridge in the district town early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Mizan, 33, son of Golam Mawla Bablu of Paschim Tekpara in No 4 ward of Cox’s Bazar municipality.
Abu Mohammad Shahjahan Kabir, officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar Model Police Station, said a case was filed with Cox’s Bazar Model Police Station on February 25 in connection with Yaba looting from Abu Sayed Company Jetty in Majherghat of the district town on February 8. Mizan was made prime accused in the case and he went into hiding.
Later, Benapole immigration police arrested Mizan on July 17 and handed him over to Cox’s Bazar district police.
Following Mizan’s information, a team of police conducted a drive in the bridge area early in the morning.
When the team approached the area, his associates attacked police and opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back that triggered the gunfight.
Later, police rescued bullet-hit Mizan from the spot and took him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Police recovered 10,000 Yaba bills, a local pistol and one round of cartridge from the spot.

Fire at Khulna market

A fire broke out at a market in Railway Road area of the city early Monday.
Md Saiduzzaman, senior station officer of Boyra Fire Service said that the fire broke out at Manik Miah Shopping Complex around 2am from an electric short circuit. On information three fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flame within half an hour.

Police murder suspect dies in RAB ‘shootout’ in Brahmanbaria

Mamun Mia, a key suspect in the murder of an assistant sub-inspector in Brahmanbaria, has died in a ‘shootout’ with the Rapid Action Battalion.
The shootout took place at Chandpur Bazar in Machhihata of Sadar Upazila on Sunday, said Chandan Debnath, assistant director of RAB-14 Bhairab Camp.
ASI Amir Hossain of Sadar Police Station was stabbed to death near Chandpur Bridge while he was chasing a crime suspect on Friday. The incident also left ASI Moni Shankar injured. Police filed a case naming five people. Mamun Mia, son of Musa Mia from Chandpur village, was named as the key suspect.
“A team of RAB raided Chandpur Bazar overnight in a bid to nab Mamun. His gang opened fire after the RAB team appeared on the scene. RAB retaliated in self-defence and Mamun was injured,” Chandan said.

Doctors pronounced Mamun dead on arrival at the Brahmanbaria Central Hospital, he said. RAB recovered a pistol, four bullets and a sharp weapon from the scene. The raid also left two RAB members injured.
Meghna devours over 100 houses in Raipura, many under threat

Erosion by the River Meghna in two unions under Raipura upazila of Narsingdi has rendered over 100 families homeless in last couple of days.
Around 100 bighas of arable lands have also goned into the river bed due to the erosion.
The affected villages are: Kalikapur, Imamdirkandi and Sodagorkandi under Chanpur union and Beer Char Modhua village under Char Modhua union.
Chanpur union chairman Momen sarkar said that affected people alleged that although the government distributed dry food among them, local administration is yet to extend its help towards the erosion-hit people.
Affected people are taking shelter in the safer places.
Local people blamed illegal sand lifting for the erosion.
UNO M Shafiqul Islam said necessary measures would be taken once the list of affected people reached.
He also said a proposal to build embankment in Char Modhua and Chanpur unions have been sent to the ECNEC.

Doctor jailed for providing fake Covid-19 certificate in Sylhet

A mobile court here on Sunday evening awarded four months jail and fined Taka one lakh to a doctor for providing fake reports of Covid-19 test.
The accused doctor is identified as AHM Shah Alam Sagar. The mobile court led by district administration raided the doctor’s chamber at Kajal Shah area of the city and seized some Covid-19 negative fake certificates. He claims to be a doctor at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College.

Corona cases cross 12,900 in Ctg

The number of coronavirus (Covid-19) positive cases crossed 12,900 mark as 173 more new patients were diagnosed with the lethal virus at five laboratories after testing 869 samples in the district in last 24 hours.
“The total numbers of Covid-19 patients are now stand at 12,927 only in Chattogram district till Monday,” Civil surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi told BSS on Monday.
Of the newly detected 173 Covid-19 patients, 107 are the residents of the port city and the rest 66 are residents of different upazilas of the district.
No new death was reported in Chattogram on Monday, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said.
A total of 1567 persons were released from the hospital after recovery from COVID-19 infection till Monday, he added.
Dr Rabbi told that 15 new Covid-19 patients were diagnosed with the corona virus at BITID, Chattogram after testing 116 samples in last 24 hours.
A total of 51 new Covid-19 patients were diagnosed with the coronavirus at Chattogram University after testing 174 samples in last 24 hours.
Thirty-two more new Covid-19 patients were tested corona positive at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) after testing 297 samples during the same period.
On the other hand, 43 more corona patients were identified at city’s Imperial Hospital after testing 271 samples during the same period. Besides, 32 people were tested positive after testing 85 samples at Chevron laboratories in last 24 hours.

83 more tested positive for corona in Rangpur division

Eighty three more people were tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) after testing their samples on Monday at the two Covid-19 laboratories in Rangpur division.
Health officials said the newly infected 83 cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples collected from all eight districts in the division at the laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur on Monday.
Of them, 45 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.
“Among the 45 patients, 18 in Rangpur, 13 in Gaibandha, five in Lalmonirhat, seven in Kurigram and one each in Nilphamari and Panchagarh districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.
On the other hand, 38 more new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur.
“Among the 38 patients, 19 are from Dinajpur, nine from Thakurgaon, four from Nilphamari and six from Panchagarh districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker told BSS after completing the testing process at 7 pm.
Talking to BSS, Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of Covid-19 patients sharply jumped to 4,991 as 83 new cases were reported from across the division on Monday.
“The district-wise break up of total 4,991 patients stands at 1,488 in Rangpur, 218 in Panchagarh, 591 in Nilphamari, 268 in Lalmonirhat, 342 in Kurigram, 294 in Thakurgaon, 1,239 in Dinajpur and 551 Gaibandha of the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Covid-19 cases climb to 10,163 in Rajshahi division, 4,483 cured

With detection of 174 new more positive cases in four districts on Sunday, the total number of Covid-19 infected patients in Rajshahi division now climbed to 10,163, said a Covid-19 quarantine and isolation related daily report here on Monday.
Of the total infected patients, 4,483 have, so far, been cured from the deadly disease with 133 fatalities including 80 in Bogura and 18 in Rajshahi while 1,061 others were undergoing treatment in designated hospitals in the division till Monday morning.
Of the total new positive cases, the highest 97 were detected in Rajshahi district including 60 in its city followed by 60 in Bogura and 16 in Sirajgonj districts, Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya, Divisional Director of Health, said.
With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the reported Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,205 in Rajshahi including 1,726 in its city, 291 in Chapainawabganj, 779 in Naogaon, 351 in Natore, 627 in Joypurhat, 4,180 in Bogura, 1,059 in Sirajganj and 671 in Pabna districts.
Following detection of new Covid-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas in the division were placed on 14-day lockdown according to the health safety guidelines.
Dr Gopendra Nath said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with Covid-19 patients, were brought to notice and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.
He said all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 2,644 others are being monitored in isolation units in different hospitals under institutional supervision and another 1,538 were released.
On the other hand, a total of 158 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh as part of the present hectic efforts of bringing all the suspected people under quarantine while 328 others were released in all eight districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 8am on Monday.
