A five-member probe body has been formed to investigate an allegation of providing fake coronavirus test report at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).
The committee has been asked to submit their report within three working days, said Deputy Commissioner Helal Hossain.
The lift man of KMCH allegedly provided fake ‘Covid-19 negative’ reports to two patients. Besides, test reports of different patients were allegedly moved around to fraudulently avail government aid.
Probe body convener Additional District Magistrate Md Yusuf Ali said the accused are all low ranking staff.
Tourist guide found dead in Jaflong

A tourist guide was found dead at Jaflong in Sylhet’s Gowainghat Upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Saddam Hossain, 30, son of Hatem Ali of Kalinagar village. He was a professional tourist guide and photographer.
Alamgir Hossian, a cousin of the deceased and also general secretary of Jaflong Tourist Guide and Studio Owners Association, said Saddam left home around 8am as his regular practice.
Later, locals spotted his wounded body in the Green Park area of Jaflong in the afternoon and informed the police.
Md Abdul Ahad, officer-in-charge of Gowainghat Police Station, said they on information went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
“A blood-stained knife was recovered from the scene. We’re trying to uncover the truth,” he added.
AL leader dies from coronavirus in Chuadanga

A local leader of Awami League died from coronavirus at Sadar hospital in Chuadanga district on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Ferdous Ara Sunnah, 63, publicity secretary of district unit Awami League.
Resident medical officer of Sadar Hospital Dr Shamim Kabir said the Awami League leader tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday.
Later, he was taken to Sadar Hospital following respiratory problem on Wednesday where he breathed his last around 10:30 pm.
He will be buried on Thursday following health guidelines, said Munshi Alamgir Hossain, organising secretary of district unit Awami League.
A total of 336 people have been infected with the highly contagious virus in the district with the detection of 13 more people till Wednesday. Four people have died from Covid-19 while 205 others have made full recovery.
‘Robber’ killed in Noakhali ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion at Sukhchar in Hatia upazila of Noakhali district early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Bahar, ringleader of a notorious robber gang.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-11 conducted a drive on the bank of Suryamukhi canal around 3:45 am, said Additional SP Jashim Uddin Chowdhury, commanding officer of Rab.
Sensing the presence of the elite force members, the criminals opened fire on Rab men, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.
Bahar was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, said Jashim Uddin. Rab also arrested four members of the gang.

A nine-year-old girl was raped at Shahabazpur village in Shailakupa upazila early Thursday.
Rana Hossain, 22, son of Golam Kuddus of the village, violated the girl at night, said Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge of Shailakupa Police Station.
Noticing the girl’s serious condition Rana fled away. The girl is now taking treatment at Faridpur Medical College and Hospital.
However, the victim’s family filed a case in the morning.

Model ‘gang raped’: Jubo Mohila League leader, another held in Panchagarh

Police on early Thursday arrested two people, including a local leader of Jubo Mohila League, after a model was allegedly gang raped in Thanapara and Bhasainagar areas of Panchagarh’s Boda upazila.
The arrestees are Sazzad Hossain Milon, 33, Chief News Editor and Graphics Designer of a YouTube channel- Prothom Bangla TV and Abida Sultana, 46, general secretary of Jubo Mohila League’s Boda unit.
Inspector (Investigation) Abu Sayem Mia of Boda Police Station said that the victim, who used to work as a model in music videos, went to Panchagarh on July 14, as Sazzad invited her to Boda for work.
Sazzad took the victim to the house of Abida where he raped her along with his four friends, he said.
Later, they took her to another house in Bhasainagar area of Municipality where she was again gang raped.
Finally, in the evening of July 15, the victim managed to flee and went to the local police station.
She also filed a case against three people and 12 other unknown persons under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The victim has been sent to hospital for medical test, police said.
65 more Covid-19 cases reported in Rajshahi

Some 65 more people tested positive for coronavirus in Rajshahi in last 24 hours, taking the total cases to 1,926 here.
Their samples were tested in the outpatient lab at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Wednesday.
On this day, samples of 373 people were tested in two labs, said RMCH’s deputy director Dr Saiful Ferdous and head of the Department of Microbiology Dr Bulbul Hasan.
Of the newly infected, 42 people are in the city corporation area. Among the rest people, 11 in Paba upazila, one in Godagari, three in Durgapur, five in Bagha and one in Charghat upazila.
Satkhira BCL leader killed in road accident

A leader of Satkhira district Chhatra League was killed in a road accident in Sadar upazila on Thursday.
Deceased Abdul Awal,30, was a former general secretary of poura BCL. He was the son of Rafiqul Islam Boro Khokon of Munshipara in the district town.
Sadar police OC M Asaduzzaman said a goods-laden truck hit a motorcycle, carrying Awal, from behind near the upazila parishad around 11am, leaving him critically injured.
He was first taken to Satkhira Sadar Hospital. But, doctors referred him to Khulna Medical College Hospital following deterioration of his condition. Awal died on way to Khulna. Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee.
KMP’s quick response team for corona patients

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) has formed a ‘quick response team’ (QRT) to assist the department of health and local administration to deal with the coronavirus (COVID-19) infected patients in the city in the quickest possible time.
An ambulance, a vehicle, personal protective equipment (PPE) and other necessary inputs will be kept ready for the coronavirus patients.
KMP authorities are distributing relief among the poor serving regular meals among 300 distressed, disabled and uprooted people in Khulna city, those who cannot afford to cook and eat.
A four, member committee has been formed in KMP to facilitate lockdown and home quarantine management.
Besides, a hotline has been opened to render round-the-clock service. Food, medicine and daily necessities are being given to the home quarantined citizens on regular basis.
Moreover, KMP is cooperating the City Corporation, district administration, district council and other agencies in meeting the emergencies. They have been spraying pesticides regularly by water cannons at crowded areas and traffic signals in the city since the beginning of the corona virus outbreak.
KMP’s Quick Response Team will be helping emergency hospitalization, collect samples from elderly corona patients and assist burying the corona infected dead.
Furthermore, the Quick Response Team will be engaged all time to hoist precautionary red flags at lockdown homes in the presence of the Executive Magistrate.
