UNO recovers Kabikha wheat

Abdullah-bin-Rashid, UNO of Bogura district’s Adamdighi Upazila, recovered 143 metric tones of wheat recently from an automobile mill. The wheat was allotted for Kabikha Project. However, after examining the papers, 73 tones were handed over to the Santahar Union Parishad chairman the following day, while the remaining wheat had been stored in the government godown. When contacted, Adamdighi Upazila Chairman Alhaj Sirajul Islam khan Razu rejected the accusation of any kind of unfair means in the allotment process and storing.
Faridpur Zila Parishad chairman dies from coronavirus

Faridpur Zila Parishad Chairman and Awami League district unit vice-president Md Lokman Hossain Mridha died from coronavirus at a city hospital on Friday morning. He was 77.
Hossain breathed his last at 11am at Sheikh Russel Gastroliver Institute & Hospital, Mohakhali while undergoing treatment there, said Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarkar. Hossain was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital on June 22 and tested positive for coronavirus the next day, said his personal secretary Rezaul Karim Mithu.
Later on June 24, he was shifted to the hospital in the capital but was put under ventilation on Thursday as his condition deteriorated, he added.
Hossain left behind wife, four sons, a daughter and host of relatives to mourn his death. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at his death.
LGRD Minister Md Tajul Islam and Faridpur-2 MP also the Deputy Leader of Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury among others expressed deep shock at the death of Md Lokman Hossain.
Wanted criminal killed in Cox’s Bazar shootout

A notorious criminal who was wanted by the police in several cases including rape and murder-Syed Ahmed alias Guraputu-was killed in a reported shootout between two rival groups of suspected yaba traders in Cox’s Bazar.
Police recovered his bullet-riddled body in Kabita Satter area under Sadar upazila early Friday morning.
Two hundred yaba pills, a locally-made weapon, and two bullet cartridges were also recovered from the spot.
Cox’s Bazar Sadar police station Inspector (operations) Md Masum Khan confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune. Guraputu was the son of Sabbir Ahmed of Isulughona in Cox’s Bazar town.
The police official said: “We received information of an active gunfight between two rival groups concerning yaba trade early Friday. When a team from the police station went to the spot, the men engaged in a gunfight fled the scene. Police later recovered Guraputu’s bullet-riddled body from the scene of the crime.”
“He was rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. His body was transferred to the hospital’s morgue for an autopsy,” said the inspector.
According to police, Guraputu was a notorious criminal in Cox’s Bazar and there were seven cases filed against him, including murder and rape.
Khulna man held for ‘defaming’ Prophet

Police arrested a man from Mongla Port residential area of Khulna district on Thursday night allegedly for making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on social networking site Facebook. The arrestee is Anjon Das, a resident of the area. Sabbirul Alam, officer-in-charge of Khalishpur Police Station, said Anjon Das made derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on his facebook page and the comment went viral, creating a tense situation in the area. On information, police went to his residence and arrested him.

Narayankhola Dakshin Primary School, an old school in Nakla upazila of sherpur, is being gobbled up by Mrigi River.
River erosion has taken a severe turn in the area. Although the Water Development Board is placing geobags, already one third area of the school has been eaten up by the river, said Shamsun Nahar, Headmistress of the school.
Delowar Hossain, Deputy Assistant engineer of WDB, said they have started placing 8,500 geobags.
Additional Officer of the WDB Toimur Hossain said, “We are planning to put geobags on 500-metre areas of the river bank in Narayankhola area.”
The work will begin after getting allocation from the authorities but primarily they are covering 120-metre areas with geobags, he said.
Nakla Upazila Primary Education Officer Fazilatun Nessa said they have informed the matter to the higher authorities.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jahidur Rahman said the risky building of the school has been sold in auction and WDB is trying to save the rest areas.
“We have requested higher authorities to take steps to build new building for the school quickly,” he said.
Agrani Bank branch in Kushtia put under lockdown

Local administration has put Agrani Bank Kumarkhali branch under lockdown as five employees of the bank tested positive for coronavirus recently.
Rajibul Islam Khan, Kumarkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer, confirmed the matter on Friday.
Hasen Ali, a senior officer of the bank, was diagnosed with coronavirus on July 3, said bank manager Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardi.
Later, another officer of the bank Imtiaz Zaman was found infected with the virus on July 6, he said.
The bank authorities arranged samples tests of all the employees of the branch.
Three more officials of the bank branch tested positive for coronavirus on July 9 after testing, forcing the local administration to put the bank under lockdown.
