Bandarban Civil Surgeon tests positive for coronavirus

Civil Surgeon of Bandarban Dr Aung Sui Marma has tested positive for Covid-19.
Dr Pratyush Pal, the head of Bandarban Corona Isolation Centre, said they received the test report of the civil surgeon on Tuesday night and found him coronavirus positive.
He has been suffering from fever and cold-related problems for the last few days and, he is now in isolation, said Dr Pratyush.
So far, 420 people have been found infected with the highly contagious virus in the district and two of them died from coronavirus while 107 made full recovery.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban district Mohammad Daudul Islam tested positive for coronavirus on June 12.

Fugitive accused killed in Pabna ‘gunfight’

A fugitive accused was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Char Shibrampur in Sadar upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Tanjib, 30, son of Babu Sheikh of Ramchandrapur Police Station. Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, superintendent of Pabna Police, said police arrested Tanjib from Library Bazar around 10:30 pm. He was wanted in five criminal cases, said the SP.
After confessional statement, police along with Tanjib conducted a drive in the area for recovering arms around 2:40 am.
When police reached Beribadh Bottola intersection, the associates of Tanjib opened fire on police apprehending trouble, forcing the law enforcers to fire back which triggered a skirmish.
Tanjib was caught in the line of fire while trying to flee from police custody and sustained bullet injury.
Later, he was taken to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Four policemen were injured in the gunfight that lasted for 10-12 minutes.
One pistol, one revolver and two bullets were recovered from the spot.

Murder accused killed in Chattogram ‘gunfight’

A murder accused was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Jharnapara Jor Doba in the city’s Pahartoli area early Wednesday, hours after he killed his three-year-old nephew by slitting his throat over family feud.
The deceased was identified as Jashim Uddin Raju, 32,
Sudip Kumar Das, Officer-in-Charge of Double Mooring Police Station, said Raju, a resident of Hazipara in the city had an altercation with his sister-in-law Nilu Akter over family issues on Tuesday night.
At one stage, Raju killed his nephew Mehrab, 3, son of Mohammad Rashed, after slitting his throat and fled away.
On information, police went to the spot and recovered the body of Mehrab around 12 am. A case was filed in this connection in the night.
Later, a team of police conducted a drive to arrest Raju.
After receiving information, Raju along with his associates gathered in Jharnapara area, police went to the spot and challenged them, said the OC.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, Raju opened fire towards police, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
Raju was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while the others managed to flee the scene.
Five policemen, including OC Sudip Kumar ,were injured in the gunfight.
Raju was wanted in 13 criminal cases, said police.

3 BGB men among 10 diagnosed with Covid-19

Ten people, including three members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and a nurse, have been diagnosed with coronavirus in Thakurgaon district in the last 24 hours till Tuesday night.
Thakurgaon Civil Surgeon Dr Mahfuzur Rahman said the reports of 17 people’s sample tests came from Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College on Tuesday evening, confirming that 10 people tested positive for the virus.
He said a nurse of Sadar Hospital was also among those infected with the virus.
With the fresh ones, Mahfuzur Rahman said, a total of 237 people got infected with the virus in the district so far and 170 of them recovered fully.
