143 tons of wheat sold on black market

The incident took place with 143 metric tons of wheat from the Kabikha project allotted to 6 unions of Adamdighi upazila of Bogra near Naogaon. Local MP and Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Mahmudur Rahman Pintu and Santahar Union Parishad Chairman Ershadul Haque Tulu picked up the wheat allotted by the Upazila Parishad on Saturday night. Later, when the wheat was kept in a local automobile mill in 6 trucks for the purpose of selling it, the matter became talk of the town. After learning the incident, the police of Santahar Town ford went to the spot and informed the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and took the UNO trucks in his custody that night. It is learned that local MP Nurul Islam Talukder and Upazila Parishad have allotted 143 metric tonnes of wheat for the Kabikha project for the implementation of various projects for 8 unions of the upazila. The Upazila Food Department issued allotment letters for wheat extraction on June 29 and 30. But with less than half of the work on most projects, there are complications with wheat extraction.
Due to this, it was not possible to harvest wheat by June 30. On this occasion, without informing the Adamdighi Upazila Nirbahi Officer, the Vice-Chairman of the Upazila Parishad Santahar Union Parishad Chairman went to Santahar Silo on Saturday night and lifted 143 metric tons of wheat in 6 trucks. There was an uproar in the area at night over the issue of wheat lifting.
Talking to Upazila Project Implementation Officer Amir Hossain, he said the project was received on June 20 through MPs and Upazila Parishad. Although the project was partially completed.
Talking to Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah bin Rashid on his mobile phone, he said that the Vice Chairman of the Upazila Parishad and the Chairman of Santahar Union Parishad had lifted the beneficent wheat of the project without informing them. It was not right to lift wheat in this way. Wheat will be allocated after seeing the work of the project. For this reason, the harvested wheat has been taken into custody.
Mahmudur Rahman Pintu, Vice-Chairman of the Upazila Parishad, and Ershadul Haque Tulu, Chairman of the Santahar Union Parishad, said the UNO was not informed about the lifting on the day of the incident but done later.

Nurse dies from Corona in Sylhet

A senior staff nurse of Sylhet Shaheed Shamsuddin Hospital died of Covid-19 on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Nasima Parvin, a nurse of the Covid-19 dedicated hospital.
She died at the ICU of the hospital around 8:30am, said Nehari Rani Das, Deputy Supervisor of the hospital. With the detection of 170 more cases in Sylhet division, the total confirmed coronavirus cases have jumped to 5,270 till Sunday.
Of the total new cases, 55 were detected in Sylhet, 35 in Sunamganj, 45 in Habiganj and 35 in Moulvibazar.

Freedom fighter dies from corona in Sherpur

Freedom Fighter and former Nalitabari municipality mayor Abdul Halim Ukil died of Covid-19 on Sunday night. He was 67.
Abdul Halim, a member of district Awami League executive committee, was diagnosed with coronavirus on June 25 and undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Kuwait Maitree Hospital in the capital where he breathed his last around 10:40pm, according to family sources.
He is survived by wife, one daughter and one son.
According to Sherpur civil surgeon office, so far total three people died from coronavirus in the district.

In his long political career, Abdul Halim, was also the first elected municipal chairman. He also served as a UP chairman and was the president of Nalitabari Upazila Awami League.
Schoolgirl raped in Panchagarh

A schoolgirl has allegedly been violated by a youth at Hengadoba village in Tetulia upazila.
Abu Syed Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Tetulia Model Police Station, said victim’s family filed a case on Sunday night in this connection against Rubel Hossain, 22, son of Rafiqul Islam of the village.
According to the case statement, Rubel used to tease the girl, a student of class X, on her way to school from home. Later, the victim’s family complained about the matter to Rubel’s father. Angered by the incident, Rubel took the girl to a bamboo cluster near her house on Saturday night and violated the girl as she came out of her home in response to nature. Hearing screams of the girl, local people rushed there but Rubel managed to flee. The girl was rescued and sent to Panchagarh Modern Hospital.

3,418 detected as corona positive, 1,166 cured 76 died, in Barishal div

Till Monday noon, 3,418 detected patients were as corona positive, 1,166 cured after getting treatment and 76 died of corona in six districts of Barishal division.
Out of the 3,418 corona-positive patients 1,720 were from Barishal, 528 from Patuakhali, 327 from Bhola, 300 from Barguna, 294 from Jhalakathi and 249 from Pirojpur districts. Among them 1,166 corona positive patients of the division got release certificates after cured by getting treatment in the division, said Dr. Basudev Kumar Das, Divisional Health Director.
Out of 3,418 corona positive, 126 from six districts of Barishal division were newly infected by corona positive within last 24-hours. Besides 61 in four districts of the division were cured from covid-19 infection after treatment during this period, divisional health office sources said.
Total seventy-six dead corona victims of the division included 30 from Barishal district including City Corporation, 22 from Patuakhali, 10 from Jhalakathi, five from Pirojpur, four from Bhola and four from Barguna districts, divisional health director added. Total 19, 852 persons were sent to home quarantine and 3,149 to institutional quarantine in six districts of the division including Barishal City Corporation since March 10, 2020.

4 accused arrested in murder case

Four persons were arrested and hijacked trawler recovered at Sadarghat under Keraniganj of Dhaka on Sunday in connection of killing and slaughtering father and son at Bakerganj of Barishal on Saturday.
The arrested four were Badal Haoladar, Badsha Haoladar, Shahin Khan and Sani Haoladar, all from Dudhal village under Bakerganj upazila of Barishal, confirmed Shah Zaman, Officer in Charge of South Keraniganj police station of Dhaka.
They were arrested while came there sell the hijacked trawler and local people suspecting them as criminal informed police. Police then interrogating the arrested suspected them as connected with dual murder and already one of them confessed to the crime.
Police are preparing to hand over the accused to the crime connected police station, OC Shah Zaman said.
Abul Kalam, Officer in Charge of Bakerganj Police Station, said they heard about arresting four in connection of double murder and recovering the hijacked trawler.

Medical techs randomly discharging duties with high risks

Three medical technologists are discharging their utmost responsibilities round the clock at the Raozan Health Complex , Chattogram taking highest risk of their life for the better interest of the people. Beside their duties in the hospital premises, but they are also collecting corona samples from house end . These technologists are Haradhan Biswas, Prithu Chakma, Md. Hasan Ali.
Upto Monday, they collected samples from 950 persons, traced 239 affected with corona. These medical te chnologists are randomly contributing their role in discharging for the sake of public health beside the doctors and nurses.
Though these technologists are in the highest risk of life for dealing with the corona patients in procuring samples from house to house and in hospital premises, but these ill fated technologists are not getting recognitions of their contribution in health sector like corona fighters viz. physicians and nurses, conscious circles opined.

Coronavirus positive reaches 10,180 in Ctg

The number of coronavirus positive cases has reached 10,180 as 292 persons were detected positive in a single day after testing 1,318 samples in the six COVID-19 laboratories in the district.Civil surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi told that among the newly detected patients, 232 are from Chattogram city and 60 from different upazilas of the district.
A total of 63 new COVID-19 patients were diagnosed with the coronavirus at Chattogram University after testing 219 samples in the last 24 hours,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that 17 new cases were tested corona positive at BITID, Chattogram after testing 261 samples during the period.Besides, 34 more corona patients were identified at city’s Imperial Hospital after testing 364 samples while 54 people tested corona positive at Chevron Laboratory after testing 94 samples in the last 24 hours.
Thakurgaon sweet pumpkin farmers counting losses amid record production

Despite bumper yield of sweet pumpkins, farmers in Thakurgaon are counting losses as high transport costs are preventing them from sending their wares all over the country, forcing some of them to sell at low prices in the local market.
According to the farmers of the district, sweet pumpkin cultivation has been extensive in Thakurgaon district this time. Production has also been bumper.
But due to rising transport costs, thousands of sweet pumpkins are piled up on the side of the fields and even on the side of the road and farmers and traders are waiting in the hope that affordable trucks will be available to transport their sweet pumpkins, said the farmers with frustration.
Deputy Director of Thakurgaon District Agriculture Extension Department (DAE), Aftab Hossain said sweet pumpkins have been cultivated in 1,200 hectares in the district this time.
