A Bangladeshi youth was shot dead by members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in the border area of Bahadurpur in Benapole early Friday.
A body of Riazul Islam Ria Morol, 24, son of Abdur Jabbar of Bahadurpur was spotted in the morning. He was a suspected drug dealer. Subedar Sarowar Hossain of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said members of Banshkata camp of Border Security Force (BSF) of India gunned him down.
Locals spotted the body in the morning beside the wired fence of border and informed police, he said.
The body was sent to Jashore General Hospital for autopsy. They also recovered five kilograms of hemp that was left abandoned beside the body, said Officer-in-Charge of Port Police Station Mamun Khan.
Elderly man held over ‘rape’ of 3rd grader in Rajbari

Police arrested an elderly man for allegedly raping a third grader in Mandalpara village of the upazila in Rajbari on Friday.
The accused was identified as Habib Mandal, 60, son of late Hatem Mandal of Mandalpara village.
Victim’s family said Habib raped the girl several times when she was alone at home and threatened her not to disclose the matter to anyone.
The girl’s Victim’s mother came to know about the matter when the girl started bleeding and fell sick on Friday, said Officer-in-Charge of Goalanda Police Station Md Ashikur Rahman. She was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where the doctors informed police, he said.
Later the victim’s mother filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Goalanda Police Station.
Two cousins die from electrocution in Kishoreganj

Two cousins died and father of one of the victims was injured from electrocution at Machimpur village in Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj on Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as Mohon, 22, son of Ismail Hossain and Jibon Miah, 25, son of Shiblu Miah.
Md Mofizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Pakundia Police Station, said that Mohon and his father came in contact with a live wire, while they were cutting a tree around 10:45am. When Jibon came to rescue them, he was also electrocuted.
Being rescued by locals, they were rushed to the upazila health complex where doctors pronounced the duo dead. The injured Ismail was admitted to Kishoreganj-250 bed hospital.
IU forms panel to probe leaked audio clip of teacher

The authorities of Islamic University in Kushtia on Friday formed a three member body to probe a leaked audio clip involving English department Professor M Mizanur Rahman and a female student.
The university authorities also suspended him from the post of director of Teacher, Student Cultural Center of the university.

Six people who had been suffering from fever and cold- related problems died at Cumilla Medical College and Hospital in the last 24 hours on Friday.
So far, a total of 138 people died with the same problems at the hospital, said Dr Sajeda Khatun, assistant director of the hospital.
A total of 76 people are now undergoing treatment at the hospital with fever and cold- related problems.
The number of Covid-19 patients at the hospital is now 39, she said.
Besides, 137 people have been infected with coronavirus in a span of 24 hours in the district till Thursday, bringing the total number of cases to 3,699.
Bangladeshi shot dead by ‘Indian Khashias’ along Sylhet border

A Bangladeshi man was shot dead allegedly by Indian Khashias along Bichanakandi border in Sylhet’s Gowainghat upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Shiraj Uddin, 45, son of Abdul Wahid of Damdamia village in the Upazila.
Shahab Uddin Shihab, chairman of local Rustampur Union Parishad, said the incident took place around 4pm when Shiraj was grazing cattle near the border.
At one stage, a cow entered the Indian territory. When Shiraj attempted to bring it back, some Khashia people opened fire on him killing him on the spot, Shihab said.
Contacted, Lt Col Ahmed Eusuf Jamil, commanding officer of 48 Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh, said Indian Khashias opened fire when some four Bangladeshis entered the Indian territory.
The incident left a man dead and another injured, he added.
Earlier, another Bangladeshi citizen – Mintu Miya, 24 – was shot dead by the Khashias at the same spot on June 10.
3 killed in Sirajganj road crash

Three people were killed in a road crash on Hatikumrul-Banpara highway at Hamkuria in Tarash upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Manirul Islam, 36, son of Yusuf Ali; Shakil Mia, 20, son of Musa; and Ashraful Islam, 30, son of Ayezuddin of Gurudashpur upazila.
The accident took place around 10 pm when a vehicle knocked them down as they were standing alongside the road , killing them on the spot, said Khairul Islam, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station.
Meanwhile, police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital morgue.
BNP leader dies with cold-related problems in Sylhet

Former President of Sylhet district unit BNP MA Haque died with pneumonia and other cold- related problems at a hospital in Sylhet on Friday.
The BNP leader breathed his last at North East Medical College and Hospital in Dakkhin Surma around 10:30 am, said managing director of the hospital Dr Shahrier Hossain Chowdhury.
The BNP leader had been suffering from pneumonia for the last several days and he was taken to the hospital few days ago.
Later, he was shifted to the ICU of the hospital on Wednesday where he died on Friday.
A medical team took his samples on Thursday for test.
Headmaster ‘harasses’ female student in Brahmanbaria

A class-seven female student has reportedly been harassed sexually by the headmaster of her school in Akhaura upazila.
The accused teacher is- Md Ashraful Ala, (Hiron Sir), of Mogda High School.
The school managing committee suspended the teacher after the victim’s mother filed a case against the teacher, according to committee source. According to the victim family, the girl along with her classmates went to the teacher’s house for coaching class on Thursday.
After the class, when the girl was coming out from coaching, the teacher forcibly harassed her, as the girl was alone that time. After returning home, the girl informed her family members.
Md Rosul Ahmed Nizami, officer-in-charge of Akhaura Police Station, said that the teacher went into hiding after the victim’s mother filed the case.
Police are trying to arrest him, he added.
