4 suspected Rohingya robbers killed in ‘gunfight’

Four suspected Rohingya robbers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Friday afternoon.
M Iqbal Hossain, additional superintendent of cox’s Bazar Police, said the gunfight took place in Hoaikyang hilly area in the afternoon.
He said a police team raided the hilly area in search of top pirate Abdul Hakim.
“Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang opened fire on them. In retaliation, police also fired back,” he added. As the gang retreated towards the hills, police recovered four bodies.

Chapainawabganj MP Ferdosi Islam tests corona positive

Ruling Awami League’s reserved seat MP Ferdosi Islam has been diagnosed with Covid-19.
The Chapainawabganj lawmaker confirmed the matter over phone on Friday.
She submitted her samples at Sansad Bhaban Medical Center on June 23 and on the next day the report confirmed her infection, she said.
Currently, she is taking treatment from home isolation at her NAM Bhavan house in Dhaka.
On Thursday, samples of her family members were collected for the Covid-19 tests, the MP said.
Meanwhile, the health authorities have confirmed 3,868 cases after testing 18,498 samples. Forty more people died in the last 24 hours until Friday.
Since March 18, the government said 1,661 people died of Covid-19.

UNO among nine infected with coronavirus in Keraniganj

Nine people including the Keraniganj upazila Nirbahi Officer have been infected with coronavirus, raising the number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 884 in Keraniganj upazila.
According to Coronavirus control room, UNO Amit Debnath and eight more people tested positive for coronavirus in the upazila.
Three executive magistrates, one project officer, 14 physicians, 17 nurses, 18 health workers, 46 Rab members and 45 policemen are among those infected with the virus here.
Amid the surge in coronavirus cases in the upazila, the local administration has marked seven unions including Jinjira, Kalindi unions as ‘red zone’ while three unions as ‘Yellow zone and two unions as green zone. So far, 345 people have recovered from the virus while 21 Covid-19 patients have died in the upazila.

4 die with fever, cold in Cumilla

Four people have died with fever and cold at Cumilla Medical College and Hospital in the last 24 hours till Thursday night.
Dr Sajeda Khatun, assistant director of Cumilla Medical College and Hospital, said two men and two women, who were undergoing treatment at the hospital, died.
A total of 109 people have died at the hospital since April 1. Of them 14 were Covid-19 patients while the 95 people died with fever and cold.
Now, 114 people are taking treatment at the hospital and of them 42 are Covid-19 patients, she said.
Sources at Cumilla Civil Surgeon office, said samples of 17,728 people were sent for test from the district till Thursday and 2,994 people tested positive for coronavirus.

Kushtia man tests Covid-19 positive without providing samples for test

Golam Rasul, a retired staff of Kushtia General Hospital and a resident East Majampur in Kushita municipality, got extremely surprised when police came to his house to put it under lockdown saying that he had tested positive for Covid-19.
Rasul said he did not provide his sample for coronavirus test as he has no symptoms but he has been identified as Covid patient .
According to the local administration sources, Golam Rasul’s name has been enlisted in the list of Covid-19 patients provided by the authorities of PCR Lab of Kushtia Medical College.
Rasul said he has no fever, cold and cough but he went to the hospital for giving samples suspecting that he might have got infected with the virus as he often visits local markets. But he returned without giving any samples due to long queues.
Nurunnahar Begum, supervisor of Kushtia General Hospital, said someone instead of Rasul might have However, the health authorities are looking for the man who provided samples instead of Rasul as many more people might have been infected by him as he tested positive for Covid-19.

Janata Bank senior officer dies of Covid-19 in Bogura

A senior bank officer of the corporate branch of Janata Bank Limited died from coronavirus at a hospital in Bogura district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as AKM Shahjahan Ali, 57, son of Nurul Isalm of Borogola in the district town.
Mizanur Rahman, IT officer of the bank, said Shahjahan had been suffering from fever since June 23. Later, he tested positive on June 24. Since then he was staying in isolation at his residence.
On Thursday night, Shahjahan was taken to TMS Medical College and Rafatulla Community Hospital with respiratory problems where he breathed his last around 5 am, said family sources.

Bhairab AL leader dies of Covid-19

A leader of Bhairab Awami League died Covid-19 at Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital early Friday.
At least 52 more people have been infected with Covid-19 in the district in last 24 hours till Friday evening. Civil Surgeon of Kishoreganj Dr. Mujibur Rahman told The New Nation that the number of virus patients in the district now stood at 1317 and at least 562 men recovered from Coronavirus in 13 upazilas of Kishoreganj.
Civil Surgeon also said that they got samples of 357 at IEDCR and at Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College to be infected with virus .
Among the infected men, in Kishoreganj Sadar 268,Bhairab 484,Karimganj 89, Hossionpur 25,Tarail 69, Pakundia 54, Katiadi 67 ,Kuliarchar 91 ,Nikli 20, Bajitpur 82.,Itna 25 ,Mitamoion 30 ,and Austagram 8.
